it was mainly IS that got accepted/deferred today. OOS kids will most likely get their decisions tomorrow. uchicago is on at 6pm tm so i’m thinking michigan could do the same, or at noon.

So, what exactly are anyone’s chances after being deferred? Is it true that nobody is being rejected? I’m really worried because I always felt that UofM was my match school and now that i’m deferred i’m not really sure what i’m going to do…

Hmm I wonder if I will get deffered or not
OOS Engineering, 1990 SAT, 15 AP’s, rank 21/900

how the hell does someone take 15 APs?

cant believe i was freakin deffered,

seriously, if they are’nt denying anyone EA , which i think they will deny people cause they said they would in the 2nd email, then eff this, im on to the next one …

congratz to those who got in =] … >.>

People are getting denied in the EA round (I personally know of 2).

To the engineers, Michigan has become increasingly competitive. The average admitted GPA was a 3.9/31 ACT/1400 SAT (M+CR).

Finally, I sincerely doubt that getting your essay cut off by the Common App would go unnoticed and unmentioned. The people in Admissions are quite perceptive and would have requested more input once they noticed that a number of essays suddenly stopped in mid-sentence.

I have no clue why you all were deferred, maybe you are from over-represented areas, maybe your stats within that area are on the low side, maybe your essays and recommendations weren’t as strong as you might have thought. But remember, you haven’t been rejected. There is still an opportunity to be accepted, so I’d concentrate and making your transcript as strong as possible through the end of the year and then send an update. Good luck.

@Vinceh

good advice,

I am aiming for a 4.0 this semester , so they see the transcript with perfect grades .

I am also contemplating retaking my SAT , but id rather not considering i took it twice before … ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh APRIL…

well i feel better the are denying some ppl. also feel better they are starting gen rolling admissions. hopefully ill hear back by feb

**General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I never really thought about being deferred, but I always thought about getting accepted or rejected - it was very borderline for me, especially since I have such a low math ACT for engineering. On the other hand, I thought my exchange program, sports, michigan residenct and essays would gain acceptance. Overall, I think I deserve a deferral. I probably would have gotten in for LSA, but for engineering, I was very doubtful. Thus, a deferral isn’t that bad at all. Good luck!

^^^ did you find out today? ^^^

Yeah, why do people keep on saying that they aren’t rejecting folks? I just don’t understand. Because if they aren’t denying and sending them to RD, what’s the difference between that and being deferred? People MUST be getting rejected… I think if you haven’t received an email and your college + your region has been sent acceptances, you will soon get a reject email. Otherwise, what’s the point of sending a select few letters of deferral if all non-admits are being deferred?

No, yesterday.

I think my standardized test scores could be the only thing that held me back from gaining admittance, besides the fact that I am a white and out-of-state applicant. Does anyone think there was anything I could have done differently? I submitted my application ON the deadline. Would that effect my decision at all?

Can anyone cut and paste the contents of the deferred letter. Do all look the same. Thanks

After multiple individualized and comprehensive evaluations of your application to the University of Michigan College of Engineering for Fall 2011, we believe that you have something uniquely valuable to contribute to our campus. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, your application has been deferred for a final decision until a later date.

Your application will be re-evaluated, and a final decision will be made based on how your credentials and academic achievements contribute to the composition and quality of this years freshman applicant pool. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than mid-April, 2011.

Please refer to the website [Office of Undergraduate Admissions: FAQs about the Admissions Process for Deferred Students](http://www.admissions.umich.edu/deferred) for FAQs about the admission process and what to do next. Strong fall semester or second trimester grades may enhance your status in the deferred pool of applicants.
