UMich Honors vs. Rutgers Honors College

Rutgers HC accepts 500 students from a class of about 8,400; seems like I would have a lot of opportunities there. Michigan has the better reputation for sure (and I’m more excited about its prestige), but I received no financial aid and I’m not sure how impressive the honors program is there. I’m in state for Rutgers and it’s a lot cheaper, but are the two programs comparable in terms of prestige?

Thank you!!

If you are in the UM honors college it will a first class experience.

If you can afford it as a family and this cost will not have any impact on your plans down the road - go purchase the tee shirt and get ready to go.

If it is challenging to make it work you can achieve all your ambitions via Rutgers. Even without HC

UM does not have an honors college.

Unless your family can easily afford Michigan, I would go for Rutgers. It is a great university in its own right. But if your parents can afford Michigan without financial strain, then I think Michigan is worth it.

@rjkofnovi https://lsa.umich.edu/honors

What rjkofnovi meant is that tat Michigan, it is not a college, it is merely a program. I realize it is a fine distinction, but if you read carefully, you will see that the University of Michigan refers to it as the “Honors Program”, while Rutgers refers to it as the “Honors College”.

i would look at cost first and foremost.

RU HC has a strong residential aspect. Probably the real distinction. Having been to RU many times (including last week) and UM several i would say that UM’s campus and town are far superior.

Honors college. Honors program. Honors university honors school. Whatever it is called I think it means the same thing. Unless someone can help explain the parsing of words. I clearly was not invited to be in an honors anything. Lol.
