UMICH Ross Question

So I did early action at UMICH to LSA and also did a preferred essay thing for Ross. I got into LSA, does that also mean I'm guarenteed entrance into Ross in my sophmore year?

Nope. You'll need to do well in your freshman year. I think I've heard that if you maintain a 3.5 gpa you should be ok.

Then what was the point of doing the preferred admissions essay for Ross?

Basically you're in as long as your GPA doesn't drop below a 3.5.

There are a few students who will be accepted as freshman into Ross. That is why you wrote that essay.

tommy, Ross is a three-year BBA program. students may apply to the program twice:

1) As high school seniors (10-15% chance of admission, very random selection)

and/or

2) At the end of Freshman year at the University of Michigan (30%-40% chance of admission, with much better odds of admission if the student's GPA is 3.6 or higher)

So, to answer your question, the point of applying pre-admit is that you have indicated to Michigan that you wish to be considered for immediate admission into Ross. Now that you have been admitted into LSA, the office of undergraduate admissions will submit your application to Ross for consideration. If Ross pre-admits you, all you have to do is take a few pre-requisits and electives your first year at Michigan while maintaining a 3.0 GPA and you are guaranteed Ross. If Ross does not pre-admit you, you have to complete your Freshman year at Michigan and apply to Ross. I do not agree that a 3.5 GPA your Freshman year at Michigan will guarantee you admission. A 3.6+ GPA should put you in a good position, but there are no guarantees.

Also, please note that it is tougher to get into Ross as a pre-admit applicant than it is to get into Ross as an already existing Michigan Freshman. Very few students get pre-admitted into Ross. Generally speaking, roughly 1,000 high school seniors apply each year and only 100-150 or so are actually accepted. Of those 65-75 will enroll. The most common path into Ross is to get into LSA or the college of Engineering, complete one year or required classes with a good GPA and apply to Ross at the end of Frehman year.

Ok thank you very much guys

hey, just a quick question: do you have to be a major in LSA in order to apply for Ross after freshman year? I got accepted into both LSA and the school of design. And are you more likely to get into Ross if you're in the LSA Honors program?
