UMich Ross vs Cornell CALS TO

Hi all,

I am currently attending the University of Michigan Ross School of Business as a freshman. I was pre-admitted to the school. My senior year of high school, I EDed to Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences as an International Agriculture and Rural Development major. I got deferred in December and was offered a transfer option. Michigan wasn’t my first choice and I definitely wanted to transfer.
My first year in Michigan has been ok. I have made amazing friends and have taken 4 Ross classes so far but I have to decide until March if I want to transfer. I actually am doubting if I should stay. I feel the professors are ok though. I have met the course requirements and GPA requirements at least for the first semester. I also receive in-state tuition at UMich but money isn’t really an issue. I’m worried that if I transfer to Cornell, it would be a tough adjustment while at Michigan.
In terms of finding careers after graduation, which one is better? Is it worth it for me to transfer?

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

Here is the Cornell CALS post graduate survey broken down into each major including range of salaries and employers.

The grass is not always greener on the other campus quad.

Both outstanding. Cornell has a reputation of being a bit, let’s just say colder and not just in terms of snow.

As a transfer you won’t be alone but it is starting over again. Sometimes that’s great, sometimes it’s just starting over.

You always take yourself wherever you go. So try to thrive wherever you land and have a little fun along the way.

In terms of future employment. You can be the worlds best whatever coming from either school. That’s what they both produce.

Good luck and enjoy your time at Michigan even for only one more semester. It’s a great place.

What are your career aspirations? If you are specifically interested in international agriculture and rural development and Ross doesn’t offer that, you have your answer. If you’re more interested in finance, given that you won’t be in AEM at Cornell, your prospects from Michigan are probably just as good.

@privatebanker Thanks for your help! Words of encouragement are greatly appreciated

@havenoidea Yeah… I think I want to do agricultural business and since Ross doesn’t offer it, I think it is better for me to go in terms of agriculture. But it’s kind of hard to leave a place where you developed relationships and familiarity :frowning:

@RefreshingGel Thanks for the data! I’ll def look into it
