so I took around 4 high school classes in 8th grade and did TERRIBLY in them because I was not aware they would go into my gpa (3.2 UW for those 4 classes) though freshman year was good with a 3.82 (UW). I am currently a sophomore and taking many rigorous courses and have a 3.83 UW. my 8th grade portion brings down my GPA so much and even with my predictions on how I will do junior year it will probably end up being a 3.77 overall and the average for umich ross is 3.89 pr something very close to that. when calculatinf gpa does umich include high school classes taken in middle school? because if they were not included I would be competitive in terms of gpa. I do have several ECs and have taken practice SATs and ACTs and I predict to be getting a little above average for umich ross admits. I am also part of 2 business clubs and seeking an internship in relation to business to show I am passionate about it. what are my chances? and can someone answer my question about the gpa stated above and give feedback on that gpa problem? thanks
UM is well known for the fact that they recalculate your GPA and do not utilize a weighted GPA. I can’t say for sure about your 8th grade courses, but this page would lead one to believe that your 8th grade courses would be excluded: https://umich.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2259/~/recalculating-the-gpa-for-freshmen-applicants
FWIW Another important factor is whether you are in-state or OOS. OOS applicants have a much tougher time gaining admission. Good luck!
@altmusicman I agree with what you said, UM Ross is known to take essays into heavy consideration. If you were to write a really good essay, especially pertaining to your business classes and internship, then your chances of getting into Ross increase dramatically. Furthermore, regarding your gpa, I would take a look at the link above. It leads me to believe that even if you were to submit your GPA including those 8th grade classes then the school would recalculate it so that those grades were not included. Good luck!
Grades from 9-12 are used only. No one can begin to chance you until you have a current unweighted GPA And your sat /act scores. You can also email admissions. Writing an essay about business doesn’t dramatically do anything about your acceptance. You have plenty of time but your essay should be personal, unique and interesting. If you have a business focus then that is great. OOS is very difficult but not impossible. Taking rigorous courses and doing well in them is key.
