UMich

I know this is the Penn board, but I have been looking at other choices, what do you think of Umich-Ross business and the whole preadmit deal, do you think its worth it to try and send in an app even though its probly a little late with me being out of state?

it's not late, it's suggested to send it in by 12/1

It's my second choice.

I just visited UMich and if you want to go to Wharton at Penn, then you should definately want to go to Ross at Mich. Mich ranks second behind Penn in many specific facets of business. If you know you want to do business, apply prefer admit; it will not affect getting accepted to UMich.

Thanks, I hope i get prefer admit if I don't get in at Penn

Hey, I'm digging up this old thread, after getting deferred ED, then Rejected RD, I was wondering if I should really worry about transferring to Wharton from Umich or just being content with Ross. I think either way It will be a top notch education in business and Umich has a larger alumni network. I just don't really know what to do..........

I noticed there is a new admin for Penn, Whartonadvisor, welcome, and any advice you have for this situation would be much appreciated.

wharton is very difficult to transfer into. and you can't forget about the 100 million dollar business facility that ross that will be finished with by fall 2008.

Ya, I know, it's going to be real awesome, but I just want to get some input from some Penn people, I know you're a wolverine :P

hey, could you guys give me some more information about this? i tried googling it and looking at the UMich website...but nothing is updated. i don't really understand the preadmit deadline.....are you guys talking about the BBA program?

You have to write another essay for preadmit. They select about 60-80 qualified High School Seniors for admission to the Business School their sophomore year. The deadline for preadmit is the same for the regular app 2/1. The earlier you apply, the better chance you have.

so as an out of state applicant...i need to send in my entire freshman application plus that additional essay before 12/1? there are no binding contracts with this, correct?

You need to do this Before 2/1. 12/1 would be better though, the earlier the better, and there is no binding contract, Umich is a rolling admission university.

ok. thanks. i see. however...wouldn't you doubt the strength of the BBA program since it's rolling admission...i mean, how would adcoms get the most qualified applicants if its rolling?

Just research Ross, you'll see how strong it is

jhum111, although i think umich is awesome and top-notch, you should consider your goals and your desires. if you want to attend the best possible business program and an ivy league school, go for wharton.

if your primary goal is to attend and graduate from a top business school with an endless amount of opportunities, you could definitely do that with ross. as for me, it's always been a dream to attend an ivy league school, so i'll be applying to penn arts and sciences and columbia. also, it's costing me an arm and a leg to stay at umich for another 3 years.. hehe.

I think you should stay at UMich. When you're going to one of the best business schools, I guess I don't see much benefit versus cost in transferring to Wharton, another excellent business school.
Some people have said if you want to go to Ivy Leage then you should transfer, but you're at a world class university already, what difference does it make if you're in the ivy league or not? I mean honestly, some people really need to be more practical when looking at things. The cost of going from one place to another after a mere year, putting all of your contacts and friends aside just for going from #2 business to #1 business? Plus you guys actually have decent sports teams. . .
I love Penn but I'm not dumb enough to think it's the only place people should go.

At the very least, see how you like it at Mich. From what I've heard students are really satisfied, and I'm sure you will be too.
