I Chose Ross Over Wharton

THAT'S RIGHT :) shocked my family, shocked my classmates, shocked the college counselling office, but yes, i want a real college experience.

and that scholarship from UM is really tempting itself anyway :)

now take that you prestige wh0res

peace. My rant is over :)

If you're smart enough to get into Wharton, you'll do great here and enjoy the same opportunities. Best of luck to you!

I'd pick UMich ROSS over any school (except maybe Harvard/Stanford, but defintely not any other schools). :D

Cheers :)

Ha, grats. I'm oozing with jealously

wow.....just wow.

You go Bearcats. Ross is only infinitisimally weaker than Wharton but quality of life at Michigan is significantly better than at Wharton. In fact, in terms of professional placement, Ross is probably just as effective as Wharton.

Bearcats, congrats... Wharton's loss and Ross' gain. You will love the pre-admit program. You will get individualized attention that you would not get at Wharton.

I hope you're starting a growing trend, although you will be in the minority for quite some time ;) ... and you seem to enjoy that!

Congratulations. Michigan is too close to Canada for me, but otherwise I'd consider doing the same thing.

;)

By the way, you've got your head in the right place. With a track record like this of making your own decisions and figuring out what you really want to do, vs. what others think makes the most sense, you'll be better off overall. I have a friend who went to Wharton undergrad, then MBA, and then figured out what she really wanted to do was write -- and she thinks she should have known it all along.

You're crazy...but whatever floats your boat.

Why is he crazy? The same percentage of Ross stuydents get into top 5 IBanks and top 5 MCs annually. Average starting salaries, when adjusted for cost of living, are almost identical, Ann Arbor/Michigan are more fun and pleasant than Phili/Penn and Ross is ranked #3-#5 compared to Wharton's #1 ranking.

Pretty good move bud. The preadmit program is great from what I hear.

lol. my herooo

Congratulations. Either one is a good choice, but if you're looking for the complete undergraduate experience both in class and out of class, then UM/Ross is where you should be. You'll take a full distribution of classes across the university but still get a basic grounding in business. You'll get to go to the Big House for football, Yost for hockey, Crisler for basketball (yuck, we definitely lose out to the Palestra on that one). Maybe you'll get lucky and get admitted to our special programs that go to Washington DC or China or central Europe. No matter what, you'll definitely be challenged. You're exactly the type of student that I hope to continue to attract to Ross. Best of luck to you.

Full disclosure: I went to Wharton for my PhD (a completely different experience than going for an undergraduate degree) after going to Furman (small, southern liberal arts) for my undergraduate math and Georgia Tech for my MBA. I'm now the director of the Ross BBA Program and have been in AA for 15+ years. I hate the cold weather but love UM/Ross.

well, u definitely pwned everyone u kno...

good choice tho

Congrats. Don't worry, many of the Preferred Admits you meet will be in similar shoes as you (although not with Wharton as the secondary option). I think you'll really like being a PA in Michigan. You'll get a much more personalized treatment for sure.

It'd be really cool if we, the first PA group, could meet some of you '11 students. You guys will rock this school. Go Ross!

Congrats!

You get to be like S who turned down Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, Caltech et al.. to do engineering at Michigan. (Worse than turning down Wharton, don't ya think?)
Noticed another person who is going to LSA who turned down Harvard, Yale, Princeton, UCB, Brown and others... that makes at least three crazy ones who are now saying "Go Blue"

i love you man ill see you in Ross in '08 my fellow PA.

While I can understand the OP's decision. CONGRATS to you first of all in having those choices. Ross is great.

oldolddad...that kid going to LSA, IFF not for financial reasons, is just crazy for turning down those schools to go to UMICH LSA.

The only school that I would even stop and consider to go to over Ross would be Brown.
