EA requested means you the applicant requested EA. They get thousands of applications and bits and pieces of your information all comes in at different times. If you requested EA it means your application was in on time, then they go back and match up the documentation to when they actually got it NOT when they logged it into the system. Being OOS we were worried that the information took longer to get there. The admissions department assured me that it could still be another 2 weeks before the EA qualified status is sent out. So bottom line don’t stress! Also decisions are going out as they are made, no real pattern or school first or anything. They are all set to be notified by December 23 this year if you qualified for EA.
Good luck everyone!
Other applied: University of Iowa - accepted/honors
Purdue, Northwestern, Notre Dame, University of Wisconsin and University of Minnesota but UMICH after visiting two weeks ago is #1 choice. Go BLUE!
^:)^
Did anyone fill our “My Scholarship Profile” on the status check site? Is it necessary or beneficial?
@educationfan You can fill it out but it’s not going to to make a difference. If you get accepted you have until April 1st to file all the financial aid (FAFSA and CSS PROFILE) and scholarship stuff
@Seacoast “So bottom line don’t stress! Also decisions are going out as they are made, no real pattern or school first or anything. They are all set to be notified by December 23 this year if you qualified for EA.”
May you please clarify. As in, when you had previously stated that ‘all decisions are going out as they are made, no real pattern or school first or anything’. Does that imply that applicants who applied EA may have already been notified of their admissions decisions? If so, how may one be typically notified?
@IvyBred That doesn’t seem right. The old EA threads from previous years had everyone waiting till basically a week before the EA answer deadline for their results. My friends from my school who applied in early august got EA qualified the same day as I did and I applied on October 30th.
@APlennox Sounds unusual don’t you think?
@IvyBred I believe what he means is that they don’t necessarily release all their decisions at one time, on one day (the 23rd), instead I heard they begin releasing decisions around mid December. From my sister’s experience (and my own for the school that I have already gotten into) most decisions are sent out primarily by email, then followed up by a letter. But I cannot guarantee this for Michigan.
So I applied on Nov 1 and my status changed to EA qualified was changed yesterday. I am just sharing my experience. Also I called UMich rather than speculate and shared what they told me. @enginero is correct. Some people who applied EA are finding out sooner than Dec 23. Not sure who or why but they did confirm that people already know. If you have questions call admissions rather than going with what you see online. It will make you feel a whole lot better! Good luck everyone.
Oh and just so you have a reference point and why I was freaked a bit.
Common App Nov 1
Teacher References Nov. 5

School Report Nov. 9
Tests Nov. 3
The woman in admission says those dates are when they enter them into their system NOT when they received them. That’s why there is so much confusion and concern.
My account still says “EA- Requested”… Should I be worried?
Just checked and I’m EA qualified!
And @DreamsforIvy I don’t think you should be worried. It just takes time for them to look at everyone’s apps to update portal that things were in on time
FYI - last year MANY EA qualified applicants were “deferred” and waited well into March and April to receive final admission decisions. I think there are several reasons for this. First, many more applicants are using the EA option at Michigan, because they expect an early notification without commitment. Second, UMICH has become increasingly concerned about their yield - meaning that many Ivy ED applicants use UMICH as their “safety” school (as indicated by posters above) and have no intention of attending, if admitted to the school of their choice. As a result, I think UMICH has pulled back considerably from EA commitments. Don’t bank on an early notification and, if you are a very highly qualified candidate and using UMICH as a safety, don’t bank on admission as an EA applicant. Last year, MANY such candidates were deferred because the university was probably not clear that these applicants were committed. It might be better (more honest) if UMICH switched to an ED application - unequivocally commit upfront and make a yes/no decision based upon admissions decision. No more games.
@ProudDad26 and then there’s me who is hoping for at least a deferral. Is it true that they mostly defer ea applicants or is that just from false reports on cc? My deferral chance is pretty high imo, and I think I have a decent chance of acceptance if I’m deferred because of my senior year grades. Obviously, I’d gladly take an early action acceptance
