UMKC 6-year BS/MD Program

maybe we should start an 06/07 forum for umkc, so we know who is applying to the school this year.

M17…the GPPA is that for illinois students only?

yeah it is

Yeah can we start an 06/07 forum? post the link here if u’ve already started one.

o yea, how important are senior grades to this program?

hey guys,.
i am interested in the 6-yr program but i don’t know if my stats r good enough
ACT: 29
SAT: 1820
GPA: 4.0

i am taking a lot of AP classes and i am in a lot of clubs but i don’t have enough EC

i am still a junior so i can improve. please give me some tips.
what r the requirements for the program anyway?

UMKC SOM looks for clinical exposure/experience, research experience, & maturity, besides good stats

monica121, are you in or out of state?

For those of who finished the interview:
How was the interview?
Did you have to take a chemistry test?

what, you have to take a chem test? thats ridiculous- i took ap chem in 10th grade. i already forgot everything.

you have to take the Toledo Chemistry Test on your interview day. Its not too difficult if you’ve taken at least a PreAP Chemistry class in high school. I wouldn’t be too worried about it.

If I remember correctly, people who don’t pass the test may be accepted on the condition that they take and pass chemistry over the summer before you would traditionally begin college.

I’d call the Council on Selection if you have more questions about it. Ms. Morgenegg is really nice (<a href=“mailto:morgeneggm@umkc.edu”>morgeneggm@umkc.edu</a> ; 816 235 1783)

hey, i’m also wanting to get into the kc program, and i had questions for people who could give me real answers…not promos. i’m a senior in high school. i’m also a health care specialist in the army reserves. i’ll be applying to kc for admission in the fall of 2008 (when my specialist training is over.) when would be the best time to apply? also, i know that kc has an rotc program, does anyone have any experience with that or knows if that would be compatable with the 6-year program. also, i only got chem 1 in during my high school years…they couldn’t fit chem 2 into my schedule no matter how hard we stretched it…will that be a huge set back towards possible admissions? thanks for any help you can offer…

I applied to the UMKC 6-yr program and my interview is Feb. 16th. Any specific tips for success on the Toledo Chem Test and the interview from those who’ve already experienced this? thanks!

Stats:
In-state
ACT: 30
Rank: 10/535
AP Chem: 4
Loads of EC and clinical exposure (job-shadow and hospital volunteering)
Significant work experience

globewanderer,
your time of application doesn’t matter as long as its by the deadline (which was november 15th when i applied). i can really say it doesn’t matter because my parents dropped the app off ON THE 15TH and i got in. i don’t know about rotc but the army recruiter said something about them paying for your med school and giving you a pretty good monthly stipend as long as you stay in the army for several years after that. chemistry…we have some people who took chem 1 during the fall semester, so you should be fine there.

divinelight,
the toledo chem test is a complete joke-i can’t believe i wasted my time reading the sparknotes chemistry review. if you have basic algebra skills, you’ll be just fine. be sure you have a really good reason why you want to be a doctor, and be able to justify your involvement in every activity (actual interview question-why were you in the engineering club when there was a medical equivalent?)

oh and always be calm, confident (but never cocky) and always have a smile on your face. it helps to have a knowledge of world affairs, especially regarding medicine, but i remember a conversation i had with interviewer #2 about a book called “the world is flat,” so i guess they want people who won’t just sit in their rooms and study all day (though some do anyway).

good luck!

I would just like to mention that that is an excellent piece of advice.

sup everyone. i’m currently in the program right now so if you guys have any questions feel free to ask. i’m not going to sugar coat anything…i’m gonna tell it how it is.

Are they done contacting people for reviews yet?

Filabusta, call Ms. Morgenegg if you have not heard about an interview yet.

COOKIEFAIRY,
would they give us a periodic table for the chem test?

yes momat, i believe you should be getting a periodic table
