update! 2 days after the last sentence was cut off, I was admitted (today)
Congrats! For anyone else from California/West Coast, it may be awhile before you get the decision because I recently (physically) met the admission counselor for the area and he’s on college tours right now so he may not have time to read applications.
@JBStillFlying2 I applied to the College of Biological Sciences and College of Liberal Arts as a fallback, sorry for the late reply.
@GladiatorInASuit you are a solid admit for CLA, obvi. So the fact that you haven’t heard anything yet probably means they are considering you still for CBS which is good news. The uw GPA is a bit low - do you know your class rank? ACT score is within the mid 50th percentile range - I’d be a bit concerned about the science portion but the math is very strong so hopefully makes up for the science. Hopefully a match at worse a low reach. Good luck to you!
What is the last sentence that gets cut off? Anyone know?
@huet99 for my kid it was this one: “All students who submit complete applications by the November 1st priority deadline will receive their admission decisions on this website by January 31st.”
Still waiting for a decision here. Applied 10/31. Daughter’s stats:
ACT 30 composite
GPA 3.87 UW, 4.1 W
Courses 4 AP (the only AP courses our tiny school district offers)
Rank 7/114
EC Nothing spectacular: Softball, Volleyball, Chamber Choir, Prom Committee, peer tutor, PT job
First choice is CBS, second is CLA. I am pretty sure she will get in to CLA but I am amazed at the strength of the applicant pool. I was admitted to CLA honors in 1989 and my stats were much less impressive (my first tuition bill was $750 also…things have changed).
@angstymom It looks like she tracks very well within freshman profile range for CBS
https://admissions.tc.umn.edu/academics/profile.html
And she has legacy. So she should hear something soon. My OOS D got her acceptance on Th 11/24 for CSE but she applied a few days earlier to avoid any potential wave of apps coming in right before 11/1.
In addition to tuition there’s been rampant inflation (requirements for GPA, scores and ECs) across the board.
Good luck!
@angstymom she has great stats - if they wanted her in CLA they would have accepted her by now. So that’s actually good news! Keeping fingers crossed for her!
Is it okay to assume that if I applied to CSE OOS first week of October with all materials received then as well that I am most likely rejected if I haven’t gotten a decision yet?
@EGScout98 I would stay patient with all your applications. It’s still early in the acceptance process.
@EGScout98 ditto ^^
Today is the Regular Decision deadline so they have nothing to do but make decisions from here on out. Up till today they were still receiving applications (including apps from those who were just dinged ED elsewhere).
What was your second choice college? If something like CLA and you haven’t heard from them yet, that means they are not (yet) considering you for that. That’s good news.
Also, take a look at the stats linked below because if you are within the mid-50th percentile you are in a pretty good spot. If you are higher, then you are in a great spot.
My first choice college is a reach for me (CSE with a 3.5 and 29 ACT). My second choice is college of biological sciences which I know is slightly less competitive. Does anyone know how much easier it is to get into CBS than CSE? Also, if I do get into CBS but not CSE, is it a possibility to apply to CSE while at Minnesota?
@huet99 yes you can apply for a transfer once you have some courses under your belt. The UMN website has the details. Not sure of the admit rate for CBS or CSE but Carlson was 28% last year and is about the same selectivity of CBS or a tad lower, I believe. CSE is going to be lower still.
Edit the above post to clarify: the order of selectivity as best as I can surmise: CSOM <= CBS < CSE.
Ok thanks
I’m sure this has been answered a thousand times, but will I get an email when I get a decision on my portal or do I have to check it? I’m just trying to not stress about college so I would like to unbookmark this thread and relax. Don’t want to have to repeatedly check the portal
@amarz12 don’t count on an e-mail till well after your portal changes (and probably after your snail-mail packet arrives). But you can certainly unbookmark the thread and relax. Just check the portal every Friday at around 6 pm Central Time or later. Anything from the past week up to the day of would have been posted by then.
@amarz12 for UMTC we got an email (ours was on a Thurs) so we checked the portal and saw the update! The update was most likely on the portal prior to sending us that email. We didn’t get the snail mail acceptance packet until 9 days after that Thurs email. Hope that helps!
Did anyone else see their message change to day? The Nov 1st with decision by Jan 31 is gone.
Please note: This is the most up-to-date information available to our staff.
All of your required application materials have been received by the deadline. Thank you!
