Great! Thank you for your reply @JBStillFlying3 !
My daughters acceptance showed up today but it says liberal arts. Of course she wants the letter so I cannot tell her. I thought she applied to Carlson. Shrugs…clueless.
@AnineC - CLA is a backup for those who don’t get into Carlson but I’m surprised by this decision. Did she definitely have the required college prep courses that they specify? (for instance, making sure to take physics as well as bio, and chem, etc.).
My daughter was accepted to CBS today…to repeat stats to reassure any and all waiting:
GPA 3.87 UW
rank top 10%
ACT composite 30 (I do not know the individual scores)
very few AP courses (our small rural district does not offer many)
typical ECs (softball, volleyball, prom committee, tutor, Chamber Choir, PT job)
Good luck to all still waiting!
My tracker says this "
All of your required application materials have been received by the priority deadline. Thank you! Admission decisions are sent on a rolling basis beginning in October. All students who submit complete applications by the priority deadline will receive their decisions by the end of February." Are they delaying the decisions?
@littlemonsterfl that must be a mistake because Priority is Jan. 31 and Regular is March 31. Feb. was the old deadline from last year. I’d give them a call. Be sure to report back here, please, so that others looking at the same message have some direction.
Ok! I can call tomorrow. It’s weird though because my portal said Jan. 31 this whole time up to today.
@littlemonsterfl be sure to let them know that the date suddenly changed.
I don’t think she took physics. At least she is in. She can take generals then apply to Carlson.
@AnineC - wondering if the lack of physics was it. But she has great opportunities at CLA and doesn’t even have to stick to generals before transferring. She might be able to get her Econ. out of the way as well. Good luck to her and congrats. Two of my older kids applied to CLA and it’s getting harder to get in so no small accomplishment!
I think with the common app, it’s going to become tougher to get in. Also a lot more transfer students then years ago. I know a few that are going to a Minnesota community college to get their generals due to lower cost.
Her status on changed with the sentence about when they would make a decision cut off Friday morning and congrats status appeared early Monday morning.
AnineC you are correct about the transfers - check out the link below. For every 10 new freshman admits, there are another four admitted as transfers from other institutions (new transfers). These are overwhelmingly in CLA, where the ratio is almost 2:1! Fortunately, transfer students don’t impact new freshman admits (they are assessed on different criteria) but it does suggest that many kids do opt for cc now in order to get their gen eds out of the way and keep costs down. The fact that there are more now than years ago might be due to rising tuition.

I think it’s great. A lot of teenagers that don’t apply themselves, figure it out later. I did…ended up with masters after barely getting out of high school.
So those of you that end up dinged or wait listed this time around, save yourself the debt. Go to community college first. Read that link, your grades at the cc are what they look at.
@JBStillFlying3 So I ended up getting rejected today!

*Applied October 6; they received transcripts around October 10th I think
*I did the optional essay about diversity, the essay about the major, and included more information about my volunteer experiences in the extra box for stuff.
- My transcript recently updated and I sent it to them a week or two ago. I called today and asked about it and they said it wouldn’t make any difference on my decision ( I told her both GPAs and class rank improved)
@littlemonsterfl - what a bummer! Your 1270 should have been good enough for CLA - must have been the unweighted GPA that got you dinged? Were you able to get some feedback from them? And do you have back-ups?
Probably the unweighted GPA (even though it’s higher now). The lady told me basically went over the holistic review process and said there is nothing that could really like affect my decision at this point. Luckily I have been accepted to a few other schools and I still am waiting on more decisions.
Good luck to everyone else!
My S was admitted last week of Nov. Got Honors programs letter and Presidential award of $5000/year 2 days back. He got 3.97 unWeightdGPA anbd ACT35 SAT 1520. 5 AP classes.
Any chance for any more merit awards? Do they send later or Is this going to be all that we can expect from UMN?
He is in CSE
@Mollysan congrats to your son on his acceptance and merit award! My guess is that most of the first round of merit awards is finishing up. It’s always possible that he’ll receive more with the FA letter in the spring but I wouldn’t necessarily count on that when determining his cost of attendance. If there is a financial issue (ie he can’t attend w/o more aid) then I’d call admissions and speak with them. Good luck to him!
Is this board going bye bye tomorrow? I see the notice that it’s being redone start 12/22
