From the link for 2016 the number of enrolled freshman for CSE was 1084 from 13985 applicants. The enrollment rate of just under 7.8% is lower than the 8.9% I’ve seen for Berkeley engineering. From that and guessing a yield of 1/3 (in truth I don’t know how many admitted students end up confirming enrollment) but if we estimate that 1/3 of all admitted students end up enrolling then the acceptance rate would be 23% for CSE.
S is anxiously still waiting for CSE…WI resident and just got UW acceptance on Friday, but might prefer UMTC if gets CSE. Seems its down to wire. 3.9 W GPA, 32 ACT, 40/350, 11 AP classes. Getting late…
When did he apply to UMN? I have been accepted to both and working on figuring out what program is best. Chose Physics-Engineering at UW but really not sure what area of Engineering will be best. Good to see others are struggling.
No, actually L&S, he is considering HC field too so I believe that is why he did not apply to SOE at UW. He applied by the November deadline. We visited in April and were impressed with the U.
I will ask if he noticed a change to his online profile. Seems that will be a clue that word is imminent.
DS received a voicemail message at home today congratulating him on his acceptance to UMTC - nothing in the mail yet. IL resident - waiting for Financial Aid information.
@MSMDAD FA info. will be available in Feb. or March. He should be able to follow that by logging onto MyU. Does he have his UMN ID# so he can access his application tracker?
Edit to add: FA letter should also go out early March or so.
@JBStillFlying Thank you for your response. Yes, he does have a UMN ID# and just looked at it. Do you know what the criteria is for the National Scholarship? As I understand it, it offsets the out-of-state premium on tuition?
@MSMDAD, yes it does - although there is some debate as to whether it remains capped at $10,000 (or whatever is the amount granted) or increases to offset tuition increases. Guessing the scholarship distribution is pretty well spelled out in the paperwork.
In the past, the National was granted to OOS students who had very strong stats (ACT 30 or higher, very high GPA) but who in particular were within top 10% of the graduating class. Recipients I recall were usually well under that rank. Very competitive. I’m sure they adjusted somehow if your school didn’t rank but not sure exactly how or what they did about that.
Also not sure of the current criteria since the description has been shortened this year and the scholarship value changed to a set dollar amount (as opposed to saying it covered the tuition differential). As you are probably aware, this year UMN increased OOS significantly and more increases are expected in the future.
Scholarships arrive via regular mail separately from the admissions packet.
@Busdrvr320 My daughter also applied Early Action to both UMTC and UW Madison. She heard from Madison today but nothing yet from UMTC. She applied to the College of Design, and we are OOS.
I know that the final date is Jan 31 for the priority applications, but is anyone actually still getting acceptances or are the last few days going to just be rejections and deferrals?
