Anyone know the likelihood of getting off the waitlist (as someone who applied before the priority deadline)? I have a about a 3.5 and a 29 ACT
Just found out that I got in this morning! I never got a notification or anything. I was just checking my application tracker and it was like, “Congrats…” I applied in mid November.
Yeah, I got in with a 26 ACT an d 3.9 GPA. I have lots of leadership and extracurriculars.
I probably will not attend UMTC in the fall. I will be going to UW-Madison.
What school were you accepted to at u of m?
@CWNWSS I’m not sure if you’re asking me, but I’ll answer anyways, haha. They put me in the school of education, but I’m not sure why. I did indicate that I was definitely interested, but not sure at all.
I was – thank you! Congratulations
@MSMDAD @JBStillFlying @illinoisx3 @showmetheMAC National scholarship language says that scholarship will be applied as a waiver to OOS tuition in eight installments over four years. The cover letter gives a firm amount for the value of DD’s scholarships over four years. IMHO, the best reading is that the national scholarship is capped and will be applied as a partial waiver. I think this agrees with discussion in the 2017 admits thread.
I’d like to hear about any written UM informartion to the contrary. And if UM makes DD’s final cut (very likely), I’ll push this issue with admissions.
@DadofThree111 That is my understanding, also. The package is enough to make Minnesota a good option financially, but may lose out to UIUC if they offer a sizable merit award. Plus, Illinois held tuition constant again this year and locks in both tuition and room & board for all 4 years for residents. Meanwhile, Minnesota appears intent on a significant increase in non-resident tuition over the next few years. Given that, the change this year to a fixed dollar merit award is much less appealing for non-residents. But in the end it’s not my choice, so who knows!
Thanks for the information. My D still hasn’t been notified of any merit but based on the planned significant increases for OOS the National Scholarship now seems a requirement.
Unfortunately, we are out of state so my D has ruled out UM based on the the planned tuition hikes. Wish I had knows that before we paid the application and test report fees! I would expect their OOS population to really drop, especially with Wisconsin dropping their tuition. Who signs up for a 15% a year increase??
@BubbleGirl90 - Where did you read 15%? I have seen reports of 7.5%. Also, where did you see that Wisconsin is lowering their tuition? We are OOS for both UofM and Wisconsin and given that Wisconsin gives essentially zero merit scholarships, it is significantly more expensive than UofM for us.
@BubbleGirl90 I agree- there are a lot of unknowns for non-residents! Keep in mind that the big hike may only apply to new students for their first year. Once admitted, I was told the hikes for returning students would likely be much lower. Also, it should only apply to tuition. Presumably, room&board and other fees would be more in line with inflation. So, on the plus side, the overall increase in total cost of attendance might be well below 10% a year. It’s too bad because it’s a great program, we enjoyed the tour and they really recruited him more than any other school did.
UMN res. hall website says that room rates won’t increase more than 6%(!).
Hi everyone - my daughter was accepted Early Decision II at another institution so she’ll be withdrawing her acceptance from UMN forthwith. Hopefully her spot will be given away to someone on the waitlist (not exactly sure it works that way but worth hoping for!)
It was great meeting all you guys through our posts and sharing information and impressions. Good luck to all of you (parents and kids)!
Congrats and good luck to your D! Thanks for being a wealth of info here over these last few months.
@JBStillFlying Congratulations! That’s amazing. We all love you on here. Best of luck to your daughter
@JBStillFlying Good luck to your daughter! If I may ask, where is she going?
Thanks for the nice words!
@jh1868 she was accepted to UChicago EDII.
Well JB, hard to say but my daughter was accepted to Liberal Arts, her second choice. Carlson was first. They called today, offered her a chair!
@AnineC they offered her a spot at Carlson? That’s awesome! So I guess declining DOES open up a spot for someone! Hopefully now someone off the waitlist or in a 2nd choice college can take your D’s CLA spot! :D/
We sent an email inquiry to see why the OOS tuition listed on our portal doesn’t match what’s shown on website. The portal shows a 9% higher amount. Also want to know if we’d be locked in for future years at the rate that is shown or if we’d be subject to future increases.
