****UMTC Fall 2016 Applications/Admissions Thread****

Just got my scholarship letter with 20k a year! Super excited as an out of state student, no word on Honors yet however…CSE Student
ACT:35
UW GPA: 3.8
W GPA: 4.5
Class rank: Top 3%
7 AP, like 80% Honors Classes
National Merit Semifinalist

@blountwil2 what was/were the name(s) of the scholarships that you received?

I received a National Scholarship and a Gold Scholar Award, each 10k a year

@blountwil2 are you NMSF?

Yup!

Accepted to CLA today!!! No email just change in tracker status.
ACT: 29
GPA: uw 3.1 w 3.4
AP: comp sci, BC calc, physics 1 and physics C.

Thanks so much for everyone’s responses and good luck to everyone!

I never received an acceptance email from UMN. However, my tracker changed over a week ago and I received the scholarship consideration email. Does anybody else have the same issue?

@AAloneOrchid I did not receive any sort of acceptance email until about two or three weeks after being accepted via tracker. It took me a while to get the physical packet as well. Congratulations on the acceptance and the scholarship!!

D17 never received an e-mail at all. Her tracker changed for acceptance, then again for honors, and she received both “official” notices via snail w/in a week or two following the tracker notice. Her scholarship package was also by snail mail, though I suppose it’s in MyU somewhere as well. At one point a “Welcome to Carlson” e-mail did show up in my inbox; however, that was clearly a follow up to the original notification. The other day she just received her FAFSA acknowledgement letter, again by regular mail.

Funny how many different ways there are to notify students of their admission status. Wondering if those getting e-mails are international students.

OOS or MN?

My D17 was accepted to CBS with a 33 ACT and 4.35 GPA. Got a letter last week stating they received her FAFSA and will let her know about scholarships in February. How have some already received theirs? Does that mean she most likely won’t get one?

@uofmmom Don’t read into it. Merit based or Need based scholarships are all figured out later. Some receive information sooner than others - information is so personal that it’s hard to say why so don’t be discouraged. Good luck!

Some of the big ones you are seeing are due to being National Merit. UMN gives out serious money for these. National used to be for the very top in class rank (well under 10%) - or GPA equivalent if the school doesn’t rank. I doubt they have changed the underlying criteria too much this year. They also look at unweighted GPA to assess scholarship potential. @uofmmom, do you know her uw GPA?

We got the same FA letter - that’s just to let you know they have received your FAFSA.

So the scholarship letter comes later? I received my acceptance packet today, but no scholarship letter, so I was/am a little concerned that I didn’t get any scholarships?

Any scholarship(s) earned will arrive in a separate mailing.

@Seacoast OOS

@JBStillFlying, her uw GPA is 3.85. She is ranked 18/480 so top 4%. I’m just hoping for something. She missed being a National Merit Finalist by 20 points on the PSAT.
