Unable to apply to Joint Admission with Stony Brook from SCCC

Hi. I don’t know if this is the right discussion.I have an issue with joint admission to Stony Brook. I’ve been in SCCC for one year and a half.

I attended SCCC in Fall 2015 as a Biology major and then I changed to General Studies and moved to Computer Science major because I want to find a major that involves with Calculus. I wasn’t happy with Biology and picked Computer Science as my major.

I didn’t understand the joint admission agreement, so I asked the Admission office and they said that I’m too late to apply for joint admission because I’m over 24 credits. I thought you have to be over, but you have to be under 24 credits. I was too late for that. I tried to look on SBU’s website, but I don’t see a form where I should fill out.

I’m not graduating anytime soon because I am behind in my major classes. I’ve taken all of the necessary courses in SCCC some unnecessary ones during my general studies. I didn’t know what I was doing in General Studies. (I’ve should have taken CS in my second semester when I have a chance, but I messed up.) I had to withdraw one CS class because I wasn’t doing too well in programming. I need to retake it again, which will take me two years to complete it.

My plan is to try to get an A.S degree in Computer Science. I estimated two years again because SCCC has a new revise Computer Science program and making bad decisions on finding my major.

I am interested in transferring to Stony Brook, but I cannot find any other ways to transfer. By the time this semester ends, I will have 47 credits. My GPA will be above 3.0. So my question is, is it possible to apply/transfer to Stony Brook in some other ways?

Good questions all around. You’re right on the Joint piece – it’s too late for that – but it’s not too late to apply for admission. Probably easiest to reach out to us directly, at enroll@stonybrook.edu, or to come in with an unofficial transcript and we’ll sit down and give you a good idea of what’s what.

I’ll say this, though – CS here is NOTORIOUSLY hard to gain admission as a transfer applicant. So it’s really best to sit down with someone in person and work out details.
