Hi for my UC application for Fall i stated that i will be taking stats 50, Bio 1c, and Chem 1b

But I my not be unable to get either Bio 1c or chem 1b due to time conflicting and space filling

up quickly.

I am a bio major and my alt. is psychology so these two classes are prereqs for my bio major.

I also have TAG for all the schools. (Davis told me to take Bio 1c and chem 1b for TAG)

Will my TAG contract be denied? Can i tell them i changed my plan courses in the January

update?

I’m almost positive your TAG is contingent on you finishing the stated courses and missing them will be deny your TAG.

IIRC also UCI require that the bio/chem series be finished so my advice would be try and add the class on the first day

You still plan to take the courses in spring correct? I’m not sure if your TAG is going to be revoked if you still plan on completing those courses by the end of your spring term before you transfer. The best thing would probably be to call the admissions of the schools you applied to that you have a TAG to and ask them directly.

EDIT: After re-reading the OP it sounds like you’re talking about not being able to take the classes for the spring semester. If you don’t take bio 1c and chem 1b during spring, I’m almost positive that your TAG is going to be revoked. I think you might need to complete those also to get accepted as a regular applicant because if you don’t complete the bio/chem series before your transfer you aren’t going to receive any credit for them. As a bio major, all the UCs require you to complete a full year of general chemistry and a full year of general biology before you transfer. If you’re not going to be able to complete those courses by the end of spring they can’t admit you. You might be able to get in as a psychology major (I’m not sure what the required courses are), but if you don’t finish those classes before you transfer you’re probably out of luck getting accepted as bio major (regardless of the TAG).

UCSD doesnt require transfer students to finish their pre-req if you are doing their TAG AFAIK. But never hurts to check with the school

^ what does AFIKA mean??

also how do you know i’m just wondering?

I called UCI today and they said they would recommend that u finish but i don’t think necessary. UCI seems more forgiving but UCD seems more strict about TAG. what you guys think?

@Pianocat: Your TAG app is pretty much useless anyway if you’re applying to UCSD as a bio major. It really only helps if you apply for an alternative major that’s not impacted, as you being a TAG student doesn’t give you any sort of a boost when applying for impacted majors. You’re up against everyone, regardless of their application status.

If you don’t take those courses that you stated on your TAG app, you’re technically violating the contract, but what I’m saying is it won’t matter anyway. You’ll be reviewed as a standard applicant, and that has nothing to do with TAG. You can be denied TAG and still get into UCSD.

how does alt. major work with TAG? do they look to see if you finished all your prereqs for the alt major as well. If you are missing some will they deny your alt major. (with TAG contract)

You’re not required to have all pre-reqs for TAG. The only requirements (mostly) are that you have a 3.0, finish IGETC and finish math/English in the fall prior to your transfer.
