UNC 2018 Transfer Student Thread

I’m kind of assuming it was because I was only a freshman, 4.0 GPA with 18 credit hours completed by the time they reviewed and 12 in progress last year. My major is Kinesiology (exercise science) so I’ve taken mostly science classes, CHEM 1&2 Anatomy and physiology 1&2 etc.

@GoldenAndBlack I was told for freshman transfer students they primarily look at your high school stats and accomplishments since one semester doesn’t really tell a college story. What were your high school stats?

Not the best, 3.7 unweighted 4.3 weighted ACT 27

@tzglass

@GoldenAndBlack Seems like you have proved yourself in college,

@tzglass that’s what I was working for, hopefully it will work out

I’m trying to correct a bad decision on my part. Was actually accepted last year as a freshman, so hoping they give me another chance. So really hoping they take my high school resume, etc into account as I only have 15 hours in college completed at this point, so not much of a college record to go on.

Hey guys! Could use a bit of help, was able to set up my guest ID today, but I cannot seem to find the area on ConnectCarolina that will show me if that have every part of my application. Can someone help?

@tzglass If you only have 15 complete transferable hours they should still consider you a freshman transfer and treat you the same as last year I believe

@scaredfromunf if you log in to connect Carolina and go in to student center on the right side of your monitor it should say “To Do” and will say no items if you’re all good or the item needed if not!

They judge you based on what your enrollment would be at the time you arrive at Carolina, correct?

@goldandblack so you would have transferred in as a freshman?

@nduclaunc ya that’s correct

Not tryna be a downer or anything, but tbh GPA doesn’t really mean anything compared to accomplishments. Everyone here has a good GPA, but what have you accomplished or done during your time in college? A high GPA doesn’t stand out at one of the top public institutions, but prestigious jobs, internships, awards, etc… will

@PalmTree55 I don’t agree with what you’re saying. If you have a 4.0, or close to that, I think that’s the golden ticket. After that come the accomplishments. I think the main thing that counts is work experience towards your major. So for finance, it’s nice to have investing experience. Look at it this way: Can you get in with a 4.0 and no EC? Definitely. Can you get in with a 2.5 and a ton of EC? Nope.

Prestigious jobs, internships and awards don’t really tell UNC that you are academically prepared for success on campus. I understand GPA and test scores are not always the best measure of academic performance, but first and foremost UNC needs to admit students who will be able thrive academically. That’s a big part as to why their graduation rate is so high. If student A has great internships and other ec’s but a 3.0 GPA on his resume, it does look good but a B average very likely won’t cut it for admission. Now, if UNC is choosing between 2 students with let’s say a 3.75 GPA, then yes they will probably choose the student with better ec’s or essay. I’m not trying to say that achievements are insignificant, but I think that grades and academic performance in your college coursework (and possibly high school) are most significant in the admissions considerations.

can someone confirm that this is the right address to send transcripts to?

sorry y’all im super paranoid

also did y’alls current schools mail your transcript or electronically send them? Mine only offers electronic and im kinda sketched out

Hey! Yes that’s the correct address! Also, my current college sends it electronically & UNC & UF both received it fine. A lot of high schools will make you send it through the mail & you would use that address

My school mailed it to them electronically just fine. I sent a transcript request to my school and then they sent it electronically. UNC took it off my to do list after a week or 2 from the send date. @abk2021
