UNC 2018 Transfer Student Thread

Binghamton University is my backup, UNC is my first choice, will definitely go if I got in.

Personally I only applied to UNC. Really really praying I get in and have the privilege. What a dream!! I have a wonderful feeling about it ~ for us all

@UNCISMYDREAM Bing is my backup too, but i just got their financial aid package and if i get into any of my reach?private out of state school Im going to them because it would most likely be cheaper.

@AwkwardNewYorker Are you the in-state NY student? I got my financial aid package from Bing last week, I received 12k grant included TAP, wbu? I am not sure what do you mean “I’m going to them because it would most likely be cheaper.”

@UNCISMYDREAM I got around 13k including loans and everything and I’m instate but not from upstate so I would have to dorm. What I meant was all the private and out of state schools I applied to are 100% aid need granting schools and three of them dont include loans in their financial aid packages. So if i get into any school I applied to thats not a SUNY school, I would have to take out less loans because they give more aid and scholarships to transfer students

@AwkwardNewYorker Got you, just curious did you not get the TAP? What else schools are you applying? I am from the NYC btw.

@UNCISMYDREAM I did get Tap but all my financial aid was cut in half this year for some reason. I’m from NYC too. I applied to Binghampton, U Buffalo, Geneseao Washington & Lee, Vanderbilt, USC, Occidental, Pitzer, and UNC. so a lot of reaches

hey guys! I have been looking at this thread for a while and have finally decided to join in on the discussion! I just wanted to get everyone’s opinion on how much legacy will help me in the admissions process. My grandfather and both my parents went to unc, and I just want to know how much that will help me? I’m trying to transfer in as a sophomore, so I’m aware that its still very competitive to get in! Good luck to all of you!!

@kflan13 Legacy will help when compare two students who have same stats, what is your stats btw?

@AwkwardNewYorker I am from UB, don’t go there. I have a negative experience here and that’s why I am trying transfer out here. Btw, the schools you are applying does not give good financial aid for transfer students, you have to expect to pay 10k per semester after grant unless you have some types of scholarships. I know that for OOS UNC, you have to pay about 30k per year according to a website I visited. UNC gives good financial aid for in-state, but I am not sure about OOS. Overall, Binghamton will be the cheapest on your lists. If you are majoring in business or management, Binghamton has a strong program for that.

Anyone who is applying for financial aid, the deadlines for both applications are tonight or by tomorrow. The CSS profile is for students who want to be considered for grants or scholarships while FAFSA is regular federal aid.

If anyone had any opinions on me that’d be great.

Chances?

If you are curious about your chances, take a look at the UNC Fall 2017 Transfer class profile here: https://admissions.unc.edu/apply/class-profile-2/
There is information such as average GPA, SAT/ACT, acceptance rate, how many students from each class enrolled, demographics etc. Obviously its not all about stats, so check out UNC’s page on their holistic review of applications: http://admissions.unc.edu/apply/who-we-want/
If you are a sophomore applicant, your high school stats are still quite relevant as you haven’t yet completed a full year of college coursework after high school.
If you are a junior applicant, your high school stats are almost irrelevant as you have completed a fair amount of college coursework.
If you want to see stats/ec’s of some accepted transfer students from previous years check here for Fall 2017: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-north-carolina-chapel-hill/1921394-unc-2017-transfer-student-thread-p43.html

Does anyone know about the likelihood of financial aid for out of state transfers? One year’s tuition at UNC would equal the remaining three years of my tuition and housing in state. Kinda insane.

https://npc.collegeboard.org/student/app/unc Try this calculator and see if being out of state has any effect on your aid based on your financial situation. Obviously it isn’t exact or anything but it could give you a decent idea. @raytransfer99

@HSstudentNC Thanks! I’ve used it before but I have a feeling it’s more accurate for first year students.

I was just checking the transfer profiles from previous years, and the change in ACT, SAT, and GPA is massive from 2016 to 2017. monkaS

Just around a month until decisions are released. Longest month ever.

Oh man only two more weeks. April 7th is usually the date they release decisions from what I read in pass forums.
