UNC 2018 Transfer Student Thread

Hold up. I am only going by the number of credits my current school lists in their system for my class status. Do I need to confirm that all of the classes transfer to determine my class status for my application?

I have 40 credits at my current college, (9 won’t transfer to UNC due to AP Credit policy differences), but I applied as a sophomore because I will not have completed the 60 hours required for junior status. Your class status for your app is based upon the total amount of credits you anticipate completing by the end of this school year. If some classes don’t transfer, your class status may be affected (if you had let’s say 65 credits, but only 57 transferred). You can use this site https://admissions.unc.edu/credit/credit/transfer-equivalencies/ to see how your credits may transfer. @electrobricks

Are you familiar with how UNC handles dual-enrollment credits and whether it factors into the total credit count?

I know I may have asked this a bunch of times before…but when do you all honestly think they’ll release decisions?? I’m kinda thinking this Friday the 6th! Given that they maybe had less applicants this year (they extended the deadline) and that last year they released on Friday the 7th. I’m sorry for asking so often, but I just can’t handle the wait!!

@electrobricks you should also check the transfer credit page to look up your current school to see what credits have/have not transferred before!

@HSstudentNCI think when decisions are released it shows up in green writing underneath where it says “Information Center” but above where the “Coming Wednesday…” is if that makes any sense. I could have looked at it wrong though

@transferdog When I spoke with a records assistant last week, he told me to expect them mid April. This leads me to believe that decisions will be released next week.

Dual enrollment credit will transfer the same as regular college credit if it transfers based on UNC’s credit policy. Check the link I posted above to see if the courses from the institution you dual enrolled at will transfer. You’ll get a transfer credit report soon after acceptance if you get in. @electrobricks

Personally, I’m going to keep my expectations of when they release decisions to be later rather than sooner. Once they send out the email though, it will be a sign that we get decisions very soon.

@electrobricks yeah that’s the response I get from everyone I talk to in admin and admissions/records. I think that’s the standard timeline they give because they may not know yet. Fingers crossed for this Friday, but I’m also expecting that it’ll be next week. Hopefully it won’t be after the 13th.

You know the fact that they extended the application deadline is making me more nervous now because if they really did get less applications than usual than I feel like the acceptance rate will be lower than previous years because they still have to maintain their status as a school and they won’t compromise on it even if they had a lot of really good applicants from a smaller pool than usual. Have they ever extended the deadline before other than for weather issues or something? I know they did it for freshman applicants last year cuz their was a tornado or something that came through North Carolina.

2012 was the only year I saw where the deadline was different for transfer students, March 1st. They received their decisions on April 20th. I seriously doubt it’ll be that late this year, and if it is, admissions will communicate that to us. @annamanna

Oh god I really hope it’s not as late as April 20th. But they have repeatedly said that it should be by mid April (or April 15th) and that was 6 years ago so I don’t think that they’ll do it that late. Also, maybe the fact that they extended the deadline means that there were less applicants overall so they’ll be able to process through the apps more quickly so we may get a decision sooner. And anyway, I don’t really know how many more students apply after a deadline extension that weren’t already planning on applying in the first place…

Your right @transferdog if you were applying you would have done it already cuz they announced the extension the day after the deadline. Well we’ll see I guess how it plays it, hopefully we all get in lol

I highly doubt what happened in 2012 will happen this year, but that was the only other year I could find in which the deadline was extended. I think decisions will be released by next Friday at the latest.

I agree. I think we will surely know by Friday the 13th.

Honestly I put my all into my essays, I just pray that it was enough.

I will be checking my email a lot tomorrow. I really hope decisions come out on the 6th, but wouldn’t be surprised if it was the next week.

I really hope we all get a happy surprise and receive that preliminary email tomorrow. We can only hope!!! We should get it around 4 pm (EST) correct?

Not sure what time the email will come this year, but in 2017 it was at 3 PM Eastern time, 5 PM in 2016 and 2015, and 8 PM in 2014. So it will likely be sent out late afternoon/early evening.
