Sooo many people from my school applied, and we’re all in the same classes. Monday might be awkward…

Hey everyone! I’m a current first-year at UNC. I applied early last year and I know how nerve-racking it can be to wait for decisions. I just wanted to say good luck to all of you and I’m here if you have any questions!

ncgirl17, what time did they post decisions?

Last year it was around 4:30

How many days before did you get an email?

Who else is getting fed up with Carolina admissions? I applied in early September and have yet to hear. It was the earliest deadline, and now it has the latest notification.

Carolina admissions are starting to really bug me too. UNC receives far fewer applications than many other schools, like the ivies, so I find it ridiculous that their early action deadline is two weeks earlier yet decisions are released more than a month later.

Actually, UNC reported somewhere in the neighborhood of 17,000 early applicants and the Ivys and alot of other universities only reported about 5,000 each, if that.

I wish they would just tell us a specific date, even if it was the 31st. The conspiracy theories of when they will tell us are exhausting. But I mean whatever we need them more than they need us so here we wait.

I think the email came a day or two in advance, but I’m not positive.

I actually met a woman recently who used to be on the admissions board at Carolina. I expressed the same frustrated sentiments about the decision date to her, and she said that they’ve always done it that way for a reason. Even though it’s usually around the same time (like Friday), they say “the end of the month” just in case something were to go wrong, and it would give them time to fix it. So yes, it sucks. I’ve been waiting for 3.5 months, but this week seems longer than all of that put together. I just hope it’s worth it!

I know it’s been forever but were so close!! At most, we have ten days to get through until decisions and if we’ve made it this far we can make it ten more days!! We got this!!

I guess we’ll most likely know by the end of tomorrow if we’ll be receiving decisions Friday…

Being frustrated or angry at this point in time is a waste of energy. Up front Carolina said decisions would be announced by the end of January. They are holding up their end of the commitment. Their process is more involved than many other schools and they do have a mountain of applications to read.

As hard as it is, go on about your work & activities or ponder your acceptances to other fine schools and look forward to hearing from UNC very soon, hopefully this Friday.

The @uncadmissions twitter said today what we already knew about them sending an email before they tell us. I haven’t seen their twitter say something like that before so hopefully we will get an email today!!

I’m holding out hope for Friday!!

My son is currently a Jr at Carolina, which means 3 years ago I was sitting at home wringing my hands wondering if he would get in. He was not so worried, but that’s another story. That year (High School Class of '11) unless my memory has completely deserted me (highly possible) applicants were told an exact date that EA announcements would be made. That corresponding date for this year is Fri, the 24th, just FYI. Anyway, so many people logged on to the system on that day in '11 that by early evening it crashed. We were lucky and got through, receiving our good news around 6:00 PM but many were left hanging for hours, some perhaps for days though I’ve forgotten all those details now. The next year and every year since, no specific announcement date is promised, presumably in an effort to keep the website from locking up again. I can’t decide if it’s better to know a date but then get caught up in the fevered pitch and cause the site to crash or if it’s better to just be surprised when the announcement finally comes through. Either way, it’s agonizing. I’m glad I’m not going through it again! My fingers are crossed for you all… Good Luck!

One of my friends who also applied noticed he accidentally selected RD on his application though he applied by the EA date. He was up near Chapel Hill, so he stopped by the admissions office towards the end of last week and they told him that they would try to get it sorted out, and he “might find out with everyone else this week”. Hoping for decisions Friday! Good luck to everyone else!

They just posted on the blog that EA decisions will not be released this week. :(
