The thing is that I would be much less worried if both my parents and I liked the other in state public options. My parents teach at NCSU and they have a… subdued opinion of the undergraduate body (besides, I couldn’t do my preferred double major there), and they don’t like UNC Asheville or Wilmington (even though I really like Ashe, they, rather rightfully, deride it as a dead end for graduate school purposes). Fortunately, the instate acceptance rates aren’t that bad.

If I don’t get in, I’m pretty sure I’ll have to go to app state. It’s a great school, no doubt, but not really on par with unc. Especially for comp science…

If I don’t get in, I’ll have to go to UNCW. @illriks, yeah, I live right beside UNCA. I would definitely suggest NCSU or UNCW over UNCA.

I don’t know if you saw my post before but do you think there’s a chance they’ll release them on a day earlier than next Friday?

I mean, it’s possible. They said by the end of the month. But I honestly think they’ll just go with their usual Friday thing.

@severage, If you want to do computer science wouldn’t NC State be the best place to go?

According to usnews (or some site, can’t really remember) unc was ranked #20 in CS whereas nc state was at around #73. Nc state has a game design program which I would be interested in, but the video game industry is crap right now for developers, and I think a broad CS degree would serve me better. Plus I hate Raleigh. Too red, too boring, too many bricks. Too…urban compared to chapel hill.

That’s my reasoning. App state is only considered because I live 15 minutes from it.

Also, I’m not 100% set on CS. If I were to change majors, chances are that unc would have better programs in whatever else I did choose.

With re: to release of decisions, remember, too, that UNC extended its early admission deadline by a week or so in response to the technical problems that applicants (everywhere) were having submitting the common app. If the release date typically is this Friday, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it were a week later this year b/c of this.

Illiricks, could you clarify your comments view on parents subduded view ? Is that State ?
If so why ? Just curious. Thanks

@Runnerguy The stereotype is that State students are lazy and party-oriented “frat guys”, while UNC students are more cerebral and literate. I can confirm this with my interactions with them. Exceptions abound, of course, but I see a lot of boorish and immature party-guy types. I don’t want that in my college.
@Severage You’re right. I live in Raleigh and hate it; the campus is hideous (I normally like brutalism, but done in brick it looks stupid) and there are fewer things to do than in Chapel Hill (believe it or not).

“The stereotype is that State students are lazy and party-oriented “frat guys”, while UNC students are more cerebral and literate.”

This is a HUGE generalization.

“This is a HUGE generalization.”

That’s what stereotypes are.

My generalization is that NC State students get jobs while UNC students can’t read at a fourth grade level.

What, too soon?

Haha this thread is getting too hostile right now

“I can confirm this with my interactions with them” …no longer stereotype…now misguided opinion

Okay guys I know we’re all really stressed and anxious about this but it’s going to work out fine! Whatever happens, we’ll all end up at a great school. Let’s try to get along and support each other during this last week of waiting - we’re so close!!!

dolphin6457… speaking one’s mind does not indicate lack of support

@illiriks Quite the opposite, my friend.
@foxh8er This.

Come on y’all. I have a cousin who graduated from UNC and is a successful speech language pathologist in Philadelphia. I also have a cousin about to graduate from NC State with a double major in the design and textiles program. She has worked for Cotton and has loved the school. Generalizations may be accurate in some cases, but are just unfair.

Why does it seem that ECU is not an option for most? I have been there for visit and really impressed. Thoughts?
