UNC Chapel Hill EA Applicants 2018

^the 75% ACT score is like 24. Not exactly on par with UNC.

Of course you can’t judge a school by scores alone, but I don’t think ECU is really a dream school for many. Safety school, sure. If you liked the school, then by no means let my comments dissuade you though. I actually haven’t be there personally, so it may be amazing for all I know.

The thing about ECU for me wasn’t the test scores or anything… It’s a great back-up school and I know people who really love it there. For me, it was the location. I didn’t find anything about Greenville that I liked.

I have lived 20 min away from ECU my whole life. My doctors are there and I’ve spent a lot of time in Greenville, but I just can’t really imagine myself spending my college years there. My dad went to ECU and the medical school is great (they’re getting a dental program, too), but Greenville isn’t my favorite city.

I toured ECU and was treated to a 10 min long football recruiting video that was included in an hour long powerpoint of information easily found online or in a pamphlet. They talked about how fun tailgating is and how we would “find our bridesmaids”. Nothing about student organizations or academics. My parents and I were more turned off with the way they were trying to sell the school, not the academic programs or test scores.

Waiting that extra week… Not very fun.

Do you guys think it will be Friday before we know? Could Carolina possibly break tradition and notify us during the middle of the week?

Nope I would say almost certainly the 31st. Especially since they postponed the early action deadline one week back in October. Getting deferred would not be fun because then it’s just another two months of waiting. I know some other schools that hardly reject anyone in early action and mostly just defer or accept people.

Yeah, I’m so afraid of being deferred because I know that I will keep holding on to Carolina and not pick another school. But I’m itching to make a commitment to a school, so I’d almost rather be flat-out rejected…

I’m so disappointed by having to wait another whole week. I was really counting on knowing today. I’m going to go insane or eat my feelings or spontaneously combust. I think.

I got into U Michigan so the wait is not as painful for me.

@annazee13 same.
@Robbo222 congrats! just got into NCSU today. 2 down, now just waiting on UNC…

I got into clemson and ECU, just uselessly hoping for UNC now…

Good luck to all. I’m sure we are equally anxious but it also gives us something to look forward to this week.

I am jealous of all of you (e.g. Robbo) haha. I’ve only gotten into the University of Hawaii at Manoa so far. This is the first reach school I’m hearing back from.

Is anyone else’s portal not working…?

I just talked to Anthony in Undergraduate Admissions. He said the soonest you can find out the decision is Jan 31. They send you an email, then you have to check the My Carolina portal for the actual decision :frowning: We are OOS, so my daughter’s application is a real longshot, but hey, you can’t win if you don’t play.

I just called. They said that the decisions would be posted on January 31st. If they come out earlier, we’ll receive an email about it.

I really wish we could know the average stats for people accepted in-state. I’m sure the “overall” data they release is slightly skewed from people accepted OOS. Sure, it’s probably pretty similar, but it would still be nice to know.

@kelseyleighmase At Uplift (complete waste of time by the way) the recruiting materials included a 50% in state acceptance rate.

@foxh8er Oh, cool. Thanks!
