UNC Chapel Hill EA Applicants 2018

oh well, no scholarship day. but UNC should pull through for me since I am qualified to be a carolina covenant

has anyone gotten their letter/ acceptance packet in the mail yet? I just got today’s mail and there was nothing from Carolina.

I received a letter from UNC concerning Excel Carolina. Is this sent out to every accepted student or is it like a separate group? Anyone else receive this as well?

Mail said that I will receive a special survey to fill out on Tuesday.

Also, for any Early Action applicants that were hoping on receiving Scholars Day invites that did not get a email/mail for that like some already have, there is still a chance for you guys. Apparently because there are two days, they almost always select a small group of EA applicants who were not invited to the first one and select them to attend the second (and last) one in March/April.

Just got an invitation to Tar Heel LaUNCh via email. Anyone else?

Just got an invitation to Tar Heel Launch too. Sounds interesting. I was hoping for an Honors invite though.

Also got the Tar Hell LaUNCh invitation…I was hoping for Excel@Carolina but I guess it’s at least nice to be differentiated in this way! Looking forward to it :)

yes i got an email for tar heels launch too! what exactly is it though?

To everyone who got invitations: are you guys out of state or in state? also do the invitations come in waves or, by now, has everyone gotten theirs?

I got the invite for LaUNCh too…I am really interested, I’m asking around to see if any of my friends already at UNC know about it. I found this on the blog…

@wilsontrawick- so sorry to hear that. Wish you well on your other options.

@matrixsurgeon did you get the excel letter by email or physical mail? also how close to UNC do u live?

matrixsurgeon- or anyone else- do you believe that all invites to Scholars Day/Honors Carolina have gone out for the EA round. Are those who have posted invites IS or OOS? From what I gather, it is tough for OOS to get invited? I was told that last year they went out in waves, although not entirely sure what length of time the “waves” meant. Any comments much appreciated. Was sincerely hoping for an invite and would need to make travel plans to get there!

which one do you guys think is the better option for admitted students? tarheels launch, Explore or Decision Days?

“LaUNCh is an exclusive event that is invite-only and tailored to the particular interests of our invited students. The goal of LaUNCh is to walk accepted students through their potential journey at Carolina, connecting their passions to programs and opportunities on campus. Explore is a more general introduction to campus that would be a great complimentary program to LaUNCh. We encourage those who are invited to LaUNCh to prioritize attendance at this exclusive event; if space runs out, Explore is another great option.” From the UNC site.

Looks like Launch over Explore. Not sure where Decision Days fall.

Excel@Carolina letter was in the mail. The actual email itself about it and the survey/application is coming out Tuesday.

As far as I have heard, ALL Scholar’s Day 1 letters/emails have already been sent out by email and also by mail. But like I mentioned earlier, a small number of EA applicants are usually selected for the 2nd Scholar’s Day (the one mostly for RD applicants). Also, as far as I know and what my research has revealed, there are two ways to gain entry into Honors Carolina before stepping foot on campus. One, presumably the most common way, is through the Excel@Carolina survey that you fill out when you get invited for that by ranking it high. Two, this might or might not exist, separate letters/emails are sent out specifically for Honors Carolina. If you got the Excel@Carolina, I am guessing that you have a great chance for Honors Carolina if you rank it high because of the number of spots (400 total) and the fact that it is not as space-limited when compared to most of the other opportunities on the Excel@Carolina list.

so i have read the information about the financial aid and stuffs. it said that we should create an ONYEN email account. i did create an Onyen but i dont know what to do next. confused me a little. anyone has any idea?

Activities
-Lots of leadership (Editorial, Model UN Secretary General, Student Council, couple of clubs etc)

Essays were awesome IMO. Probably what got me in.

And people said I’d never get into UNC without any extracurriculars. I sure showed them!

…by still going to NCSU. Yay.

I was admitted OOS, but I haven’t received any mail and the only email I’ve gotten was about Explore Carolina. Does this mean I’m not being considered for any excel@carolina programs or merit scholarships?
