Hi All,

I am looking for someone to chance me...it's a long wait until April and this uncertainty is killing me!

I am currently taking a year off from undergraduate to serve in AmeriCorps with Rebuilding Together (affordable housing non-profit)

I live in Raleigh, moved from Florida. I will have satisified all the residency requirements prior to enrollment and have received a letter after filling out my residency forms that they are going to consider me an NC resident for admissions purposes, although the for tuition purposes I will out of state until I have reached my 12 months.

Went 2 years at University of Central Florida (I think I have a little over 60 credits)- 3.6 GPA, Dean's List, President's List, Public Administration Major and Non-profit Management Minor

I will be majoring in Public Policy if admitted to UNC

I have always been involved with Habitat for Humanity since high school and participated in Bike & Build the summer of 2011- Biked across the country from Florida to California, fundraised $4,000 and completed a trip of 4,000 miles with stops to build at different affordable housing organizations along the way.

In my essay I wrote specifically on how I want to have a career in housing policy, prior to doing AmeriCorps I was an office volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity NC office and worked directly under the supervision of the Executive Director.

Appreciate any feedback! Thanks!

jcm15850,

I am applying for the fall as well and the wait has been tough so far. Your GPA should be good to get accepted as long as your high school stats were decent you should be good to go.

As a junior transfer, you should expect to get accepted with those stats. UNC is big on not only academic success, but what you’ve done in extracurriculars. The requirements are a lot more lenient with transfers as well. Perhaps too lenient from what I’ve seen, but the work you’ve done with HfH and AC will serve you well in the application process. The clear vision and all you’ve done toward that goal for your major will give you a definitive boost, too, I think.

Also, high school stats don’t really matter for junior transfers. They look at them, but they aren’t given as much consideration as they are for sophomore transfers.

My high school GPA was 2.8 and I was in the bottom half of my class. I had extracurriculars, but didn’t even take the SATs. I went for the ASVAB and into the military. I applied last year as a junior transfer from a community college. I had a 4.0 GPA and impressive extracurriculars, awards, and letters of recommendation. I’m a second semester junior at UNC now.

Thank you both for your responses! It helps to hear some feedback during the wait. Good luck colonial37! The wait is rough, but I hope the outcome is worth it for the both of us!

Tarheelgirl2014- Do you think it’s okay that I didn’t submit any extra test scores or letters of rec?
