Hello guys and gals! I am a junior in high school and have added UNC-Chapel Hill to my list. However since I'm from California, should I consider another school like Wyoming or SDSMT? The reason I ask this is that I am aware that oos is hard to get into for this school, and i'd rather be sure this isn't a foolish dream. Other information is that I have a cummulitave GPA of 3.9 unweighted, plan to take six AP courses by senior year, and have a 1900 total SAT (1300 with CR + M). As for extracurricular activities, I help out at my church's religious Ed program weekly, have founded a school school club and I am president, I have joined other clubs, and Senior year will mark my third year in cross-country. Thank you in advance for a response or two, it is very much appreciated.

I’d say pump up the SAT score.

I would agree with NewYawk, state schools typically like stats more so than extracurriculars. I think in general for OOS a score of >2250 is necessary on the SAT.

Grades look pretty good, but agree you likely need higher test scores- it is very difficult to get into UNC OOS (about 15% acceptance rate)- You really need to shine, as they just don’t take many students OOS (it’s limited to 18% of the class).

Well, I took another SAT this month (the math was ridiculously easy for some reason) so I should have my new results by early June. Thanks for responding though guys, it is appreciated. Good day/night.

I’m the parent of a sophomore at Carolina who knows plenty of OOS students who did not break 2000 on the SAT. Should you try to get your score well above that? Of course it serves to improve your odds, but Carolina does look at the whole package, so don’t let SATs in the 1900s discourage you.
