@college67 I’m hoping UVA releases tomorrow as well! I’m out of state for both UVA and UNC so I don’t feel that my chances look good because of how competitive out of state admissions are for both schools. I’m still holding onto hope though… Good luck to your son!
@blueeyes1997 Good luck to you as well!!!
@freetogive I agree, I’m glad that they take the time to thoroughly review everyone’s application. So waiting until Friday doesn’t feel so bad anymore.
@collegequeen777 We can do it! Just one more week.
@katacue218 how did you already get into Wake Forest without applying ED? Last time I checked they don’t have an Early Action program…
I’ve been watching this thread for the past month, so I figured I would go ahead and make an account.
I have always wanted to go to Carolina, especially after my older sister graduated there. Her stats weren’t the best at the time (1700 SAT, A’s and B’s, decent EC’s), yet she got in with an EA acceptance. That gives me hope as I have surpassed her; hopefully I’ll have the same result. Of course, it was over two years ago that my sister graduated from Chapel Hill. Things may have changed. After looking online at other people’s stats, it is extremely easy to become discouraged because it looks like everyone and their mother are more qualified. Just hope you wrote a meaningful essay to the point that the admissions rep who read it would want to sit down and chat with you.
It looks like next week is going to be it. Looks like it’s going to be another long week!
I have finals starting Tuesday. How am I going to stay focused??? I have the pressure of 5 IB finals and waiting for Chapel Hill. Deep Breath…and lots of chocolate:)
I am sorry if I offend anyone, that is not my intention. I have been reading through this thread just for information on when I can expect my decision. If you didn’t know it you would think it was a decision on the outcome of the rest of you life based on some of the nervous posts in here. I applied from OOS and it’s my first choice as well. But, there is nothing I can do about it. That’s why I’m not nervous, although I will be as I click refresh on connect Carolina when I know decisions are out. Guys, whenever they come out, just relax. Unfortunately many many qualified applicants will be turned down and that is just a fact. I’m sure all of you will get into a good school that is a great fit for you. Sit down relax and enjoy the next week not make yourself crazy over something you have no control over. Admission at these top schools is nothing more than a crapshoot. Good luck to you all.
@kdancer97 I applied for a Presidential Scholarship for Debate (16k a year) and I was selected as a finalist. (I sent my app in regular decision, but on December 1st for scholarship consideration) Every finalist is guaranteed admission to Wake. Good luck!
I know that this has turned into a guessing game more than anything, but does anyone have the slightest idea on whether or not today is the big day? Anyone in the Chapel Hill area? One of my friends at East Chapel Hill High said he has heard around that today is the day… But we all know how word gets around. Best of luck to everyone!
I emailed college counseling at my high school, and they think it might be next week. Who knows though.
I understand that a lot of people might think admission to UNC is a “crapshoot” and that we can all get into other schools that are just as great. For OOS applicants, there is less hope because that truly is a crapshoot compared to over half of all NC applicants getting in. For IS applicants, like myself, I am sure you are all just as nervous as I am because UNC is one of those “dream” schools that our parents want us to attend. Sure, we could attend App State or UNCG, but it isn’t the same compared to UNC. I applied to 6 schools, 5 of which I do not plan on attending, but I applied with free apps, and 3 of which aren’t close to NC. I have social anxiety, so the thought of going to school 14 hours away in Illinois or 10 hours away in Florida doesn’t make my nerves happy. UNC is a mere 2 and a half hours from where I live, which is perfect. I applied to NC Central with a free app, and Wingate with a free app, both of which are close, but I don’t really see myself at either of them. Wingate was for my boyfriend of 16 months, who will play football there, in case I actually don’t get into UNC, though I’ll probably end up applying to GSU or Clemson if that happens. What I am getting at, is that while I did apply to a small number of other schools, they are not schools that I desire to attend. UNC is where I see myself thriving at, and I don’t really see it being a “crapshoot” for those who are IS applicants because so many of us get in compared to OOS. It also gets a lot more personal when you think about the fact that, for example, if you live in Georgia, I am sure a whole lot more students at my school are applying to UNC than at your school, due to the distance, money, grades, and all that. I really don’t think I’d be able to handle seeing so many of my classmates get in, if I’m not one of them. So yes, admissions can be considered a “crapshoot” for OOS applicants, but I don’t think that’s really true for us IS applicants. I can tell you right now that my application is probably a lot weaker than most of the OOS applicants on here, but I have a better chance of getting in just because of where I live. 1840 SAT, 28 ACT, 4.39 GPA, and I’m ranked 13th out of 197 students. I have done nothing major as an EC, all I did was play high school volleyball all four years, I played club volleyball for 3 of those years, I’m in a few clubs, and I did a special college program for my senior year. My nerves cannot take much more waiting for UNC to make a decision. With that being said, I wish the best of luck to all of you, whether you’re OOS or IS, because Carolina is truly a magnificent school that I hope I can spend the next 4-8 years at, and hopefully we’ll see each other around!
Is anyone else getting an error the first time they try to login? It’s happened to me on my laptop and iphone. Hmm…
I just logged in and no problem. No changes were found.
@sam21avery Wow, well said. I agree completely. Also, I logged in with my laptop on firefox just now, and it said some error occurred and allowed me to click something to try again, and it worked!
No news on it though…sigh
What if they’re watching this thread, laughing, and saying, “let’s wait until the 31st”
I hear you @Sam21avery I’m OOS but in some ways, I feel like the iS students have it worse…if I don’t get in (and I don’t expect to), then I can always say that the 18% admit rate made it pretty much a given that i wouldn’t get in. But with 53% of IS students getting in, i think its more pressure…but everybody with solid stats knows that they have a fighting chance. That’s got to make it more pressure-filled…
I just got a “access is available only to students” screen when I tried to log in… Twice
@sam21avery I completely understand where you’re coming from. Its almost unheard of for the top 10 students at my school (instate) to not apply to UNC even if they have no interest in attending simply because its such a great opportunity. That being said, I can’t imagine not getting accepted and then coming to school and being bombarded with questions asking if I got in or not, even by the teachers who are curious. And the 50% acceptance rate for instate kids is also unbearable because while we have a better chance than OOS, at least the OOS state kids can blame a denial on the low acceptance rate! While OOS applicants have a smaller chance of getting accepted, its likely they also don’t have the pressure of multiple classmates applying to UNC. And although NC has some other great universities, I completely agree that UNC is one of the most well rounded and captivating - making it that much more desirable. My school typically has around 5 students accepted to UNC in past years where only one or two attends but this years class if much more competitive and better qualified than applicants in the past, so Im curious if more students will be accepted from my school or not.
