My daughter, who is in-state, just received her Scholarship Day invitation. It’s on the MyCarolina page under Invitations. She did not receive an Excel invitation yesterday, so I do believe that they are mutually exclusive.
Anybody on here get accepted from Texas? And does anybody know about transferring in? I was rejected, possibly because my teacher did not send in my rec letter. Is there any way that I can send the letter in and get a second look?
Are the Scholarship Day invitations only on the MyCarolina for instate? My son got into Chapel Hill but didn’t get an invite yet. Maybe it will be coming.
thank you @applicant0209 when you say “sent out this afternoon” do you mean snail mail or email? We’re OOS as well and trying to get a sense of when to give up on the merit aid dream
Guess my son didn’t get anything, because I’m not seeing any kind of invite on the Mycarolina page : (
How do you join the facebook group?
Hmmmm … No response to someone with a user name containing the words Blue Devil … I wonder why? LOL
Yes, it appears invitation to Excel Carolina = consolation prize in lieu of big merit scholarships for future year’s/threads’ reference.
@wstrav Where is the invitations section?
Log on to MyCarolina, then under My Events, click on the link for Invitations. FYI, my daughter also received an invitation in the mail today.
^ they are mutually exclusive. See Excel@Carolina FAQ at the link below. You can be offered both (or not).
http://admissions.unc.edu/explore/enrich-your-education/excelcarolina/excelcarolina-faqs/
What? You can be offered both?
Doesn’t sound like it. Seems like Excel@carolina is 2nd place.
Has anyone received both?
@NewYawk The FAQ appears to be misleading. There are some merit scholarships outside of Scholarship Day, but it does not appear to be the case that prospects have received invitations to both Scholarship Day and Excel. But people should not be too worried: there are some incredible opportunities in the Excel options, including merit scholarships.
Does an invitation to Explore Carolina signify no invitation to Scholarship Day?
Wondering the same thing as @Bluedevil98
I don’t have an invite on the myCarolina page either.
I’m also OOS.
not sure you’re going to find that small liberal arts schools’ admissions criteria are more open in regards to course requirements
Explore Carolina seems like an “all admitted students” thing. Wooing to close the deal.
This all seems very fishy to me. Why would unc not let scholarship day recipients get excel@carolina too? If someone is really smart and they want to go into business school, but they get invited to scholarship day, they can’t get the assured admission to kenan flagler that is offered from excel@carolina just because they got a scholarship? And then someone else who was not qualified for scholarship day but got invited to excel@carolina could get assured admission? Also, why does the FAQ from the site lie to us? It clearly says selection for merit scholarships is INDEPENDENT of excel@carolina.
Regardless of all that, does anyone know if EA applicants are considered for the RA scholarship day? I’ve heard it tossed around on this forum before, but I’ve seen no clear answers over whether that is true or not.
Now I’m really confused, I guess my question is: Has anyone OOS recieved an invitation to Scholars day?
I have received an invitation to scholarship day, but not an invite to excel. I am OOS
