UNC class of 2019 EA thread

@SilverSmart‌ I’m oos and received the excel email

And i have the same questions as @Pasoccermom and @danman1022 – I didn’t necessarily expect my OOS kid to get a merit scholarship but I surely thought she’d at least be considered. So does that mean the total cost of $50,938 annually is going to be $50,938? Now that is a lot of money. :frowning:

@southernhope… that is what I was thinking too. I know it is hard to get in OOS, and even harder to get merit… but what kind of kids do they consider? I would love to see stats to compare

Does anyone know how many kids are considered for scholarship day oos? I can share my stats once the process is over I suppose.

Anyone deferred receive the instruction yet on how to enter midyear grades? The FAQs say to enter midyear grades as soon as possible after 2/2/15 - but I haven’t seen anything yet in e-mail or on Connect Carolina on how that’s done. Maybe I’m just anxious and its happening tomorrow, but just want to be sure. Thanks.

@deftarheel If you applied using the Common Application, your GC should upload your midyear grades via the Common App.

Actually, this is what the FAQs indicate, which is similar to what was provided in the Connect Carolina deferred letter: Send us your midyear grades. We’ll be sending you an email soon with instructions on how to self-report your midyear grades online. Don’t ask your counselor to send us a paper report; instead you’ll enter your own grades online.
So, just looking to see if anyone else deferred received these instructions yet.

Do accepted students send midyear grades as well?

No. They will only send a final transcript at the end of the year

From what I saw when my daughter (IS) went to scholarship day, it seem to be run differently than from other schools. Overall, it did not seem like it was designed to choose a select few from a large number of candidates. Rather, I suspect that it was set up to determine the level of the scholarship and also to showcase some of the opportunities at UNC, That could be a reason why only 170 students received invites.

There also seem to be a very large number of OOS. The table I sat at was all OOS except for my daughter.

For anyone else deferred who was waiting on the instructions for entering midyear grades - the answer from admissions was we’ll see them tomorrow:

Hello, should deferred students be seeing the instructions for entering midyear grades as a ToDo in ConnectCarolina yet? I thought I’d read we should post them as soon as possible after 2/2/15, so I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t the only one still not seeing those instructions. Thank you.

Hello David, You did see that date, but we’ve had to push it back slightly. All deferred students should receive an email tomorrow, 2/4, with instructions on how to submit their midyear grades through their ConnectCarolina Student Center. Thanks!

@LI516IT‌ do you know the general percentage of deferred studnets? cuz you said there were few deferrals (i got deferred. International applicant  ) im so nervous…

@IntApp15‌ I don’t know the percentage, but they posted on The Admissions Blog that they accepted a little 350 deferred applicants last year.

Is the additional information box just for students who need to explain poor grades?

UNC Admissions posted a picture of what looked like an acceptance packet on their Instagram so I think we will be recieving our packets in the mail soon!

Has anyone received the snail mail acceptance packet?

nothing yet here

this year around 2500 students were deferred and in the last two years they accepted about 360 deferred students

In state, unweighted gpa 3.5, rank 52/590, decentECs, first generation, black female. Honestly surprised I got in

Can ANYBODY tell me about Scholars Day? I’m confused as to why I got Excel@Carolina but not a Scholars Day invite. Frankly, I don’t really understand why - especially when one of my friends did not receive Excel@Carolina but she got Scholars Day.
