UNC Class of 2020 RD Thread

Rejected from Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, and UCLA. I thought I was being realistic in my application choices but clearly I was very, very wrong. No hope now for UVA or UNC or anywhere else I bothered to apply to. I guess being in the top 2% of your class cannot get you into at least one of your more “realistic” reach schools. Okay sorry just wanted to vent about this somewhere. I know there are lots and lots of students more intelligent and impressive than me but I was hoping I could get into one of those three schools. Sigh Rejection is so painful.

But Brown is soooooo totally not happening, my supplements were last minute and were such trash. I have a feeling that I may get into 1 out of UNC and UVA. My essays were realllly good

Realizes after posting that no one was asking me and no one cares Sorry. Thought the question was directed at me. :-S

@violintigress Well good luck on your schools! I bet we’ll all like wherever we end up. @NICE8x I understand you, you’re not alone.
Problem with me is that even though my grades and course rigor seem good enough for the schools I’m applying to, my class rank doesn’t look that great (only top 7%) because my high school is ridiculously competitive once you reach the top decile. Also besides piano and three sports my extracurriculars aren’t that great.

@gq2016 Thanks, good luck to you too! Unfortunately all these schools seem to get more and more competitive every year. I am very interested to see how much ECs play a role in admissions because I suspect they are not as important as schools make them out to be unless you are a recruited athlete or you have done research. Our val has no activities at all but applied to a bunch of ivies so I’m interested to see if they do well or not. I have many ECs (strong dedication with leadership to a couple like they claim they want), but so far obviously it is not going well.

Two more weeks and this will all be over!

@NICE8x Yeah haha the best part is knowing where you’re going…this whole college admissions process is extremely stressful

i’m jumping in the convo bc i can’t seem to get off cc. i’ve been waitlisted at northwestern, washu and tulane (which i am quite butthurt about bc i feel like i should’ve gotten in) and rejected at hopkins so i’m really hoping for some good news from UNC but i’m not expecting it bc OOS

I want the results to come out NOW :’(

Oh! and even I’m in the RD pool so that makes it 4 applicants. Plus, I’m an international student so my chances are waaaaay lower

I just kinda already gave up on UNC. It was a longshot for me Haha. Especially being OOS. But I wish you all the best!

Don’t worry =D. You’ll get in.All you gotta do is believe…and if you don’t get in…well, screw them.

Haha thanks! Same to you. :)) I just hate how they release decisions so late!!!

@violintigress: Chapel Hill is near some very rural areas, but the Triangle itself (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill) is really dynamic and not at all a backwater. It’s an awesome place for live independent music, and politically one of the most diverse areas of the Southeastern US. Between NC State, UNC, and Duke, plus nearby LACs like Shaw and Meredith, there’s a thriving college culture.

Ive read earlier comments and saw that last year they released decisions on Friday. Since it’s good Friday this year do you think they’ll release earlier like Thursday?

It’s possible since Friday they have no classes. But it’s also possible they could release the following Friday.

Next Friday would be after April 1

OH SHOOT WAIT NEVERMIND

Does anyone know if UNC uses UPS to mail their decisions?

just read through some of the ED people’s bios for what they put on their apps and i am so done. not qualified for this school at all

Why are people so convinced that decisions will come out this week? UNC could pull a 180 on us and release decisions next week because it is indeed still near that “end of March” timeframe as stated on their website. Getting deferred sucks so I’m just hoping that they’re taking their time with my application and accept me in the end. (I have UNC winning the tournament in my bracket so hopefully they hook me up with an acceptance in return lol)
