UNC RD Class of 2023

Good Luck everyone!

When do decisions normally come out?

End of March.

Do they have any stats so far?

I applied to UNC!

I am a legacy, OOS applicant from Virginia applying to the College of Arts and Sciences
ACT: 35
SAT: 1350
UW GPA: 3.87
Courses: AP Calculus A/B, DE Intro to Stats, DE Human Anatomy, DE Human Anatomy Lab, DE Human Physiology, DE Human Physiology Lab, DE Cadaver Practicum

Considering that I’m a legacy, what are y’all’s thoughts about the chances of me getting in?

@wmonroe19 - Did you look at the EA thread for anyone with your stats and legacy?

Legacy status is “considered”, but I don’t know if it’s enough to move the needle one way or the other when it comes to OOS status.

Your ACT is above average, your SAT is average, your rigor looks above average. Best I can tell, there’s no rhyme or reason when it comes to GPA because 4.0s get rejected while lowest GPAs get accepted.

In the end, you’re going up against Ivy League odds. If the rest of your application looks as good as these stats I think you’re in the ballpark - but again, it’s a holistic process.

Thank you so much! My dad played football there back in the day and I’ve grown up as tar heel so I’m hoping I can officially become one. I’ve never wanted something so bad in my life. Im really hoping the odds are in my favor!

@momcatof4 I checked the entire EA thread but nobody mentioned if they were legacy of not

@wmonroe19 -It was worth a look!! OOS isn’t always easy to gauge. Hoping the best for all!!

Someone from my school already got accepted into UNC who applied RD and we’re all OOS. I’m not exactly sure when they submitted their application, but does that matter? I assumed UNC didn’t do rolling admissions. Meaning that the time you sent in your application wouldn’t matter as long as you got it in before the deadline. I guess my question is should I start worrying?

@ohs2579 What program did that person apply to? Is there anything unique that would differentiate this individual?

I would not worry but then again any OOS has a lower chance of getting accepted so you should anticipate this.

@Likebikes I have no clue what program the student applied for, but I am aware they don’t have the most mind blowing EC’s and their scores were below average for UNC

@ohs2579 so maybe a 1st gen freebie and someone else gets sacrificed?

Is it true that if you don’t get a email inviting you to visit the campus before the decisions come out it means that you either are waitlisted or denied. And if so did anyone get their emails of invitation yet?

@phm123 I got one from UNC

… the University of Northern Colorado

From what I can tell (and I’ve broken down any analytic I can find over the past couple of years) there’s no hints, tips, tricks, cheats, or hacks to determine your status before the decisions are released.

When has it been historically released/will they tell us prior?

@Roblu37 - I think the RD came out March 23 last year.

Yes. They’ll give you a heads up. Last year:

Wednesday 3/21, approx 6pm Eastern: Email sent saying decisions would not come “today or tomorrow”.

For the past 4 admissions cycles that means the decisions will be released the afternoon the following Friday.
