100% for sure. @adp106 And I converted by new SAT to the new one and its not a 1800 its a 1730.
@caligrl14567
@adepani3112 You’re stats are better than mine so if I’m 100% you are too lol. I’ve attended several events at UNC (Project Uplift, Hispanic Honors Day) and they stress that you shouldn’t let one aspect of your app make you think the world is ending. Your 1240 is fine, don’t sweat it.
Oh yeah I forgot I went to Project Uplift also hahah @adp106
@adepani3112 that’s awesome! What week #?
@caligrl14567 Just curious but where did you get the information that an applicant cannot receive both an offer from excel and an invitation to scholarship day?
This was posted last year and answers some of the questions that have been raised on this thread.
http://admissions.unc.edu/2016/01/
Things change from year to year, such as sending out some of the surveys early, but what seems consistent is the 2015 and 2016 posts that they posted decisions on Jan 28.
Week 2 hbu? @adp106
@adepani3112 Week 3 haha
@adp106 I’d say you’ve got a great shot! Based on your GPA alone you’re basically guaranteed admission, but your commitment to music really makes you stand out
@fisharefriends sorry, I misspoke earlier. It is possible but extremely rare to be invited to both (must be amazing both academically and extracurricularly). It is generally understood among UNC students that it is almost impossible to get into both as around 300 of 10,000+ applicants are accepted into the honors program and around 130 of all applicants are awarded a merit scholarship and these two are independent awards.
@fisharefriends in the forums from past years, it has been noted that it is almost impossible to get both excel and an invite to scholarship day as it is unfair to other students to give all scholarship opportunities to the same few students especially if they already have 1 opportunity
@caligrl14567 Ok I get what you’re saying. I just wasn’t sure if the admissions committee intentionally selected different people for excel and merit scholarships or if the reason why few got both was a matter of probability.
@paveyourpath Quote from the link “All students were automatically considered for Honors Carolina, assured admission to some of the most competitive programs, and other special opportunities during the admissions review. Those students who have been selected for consideration will receive a survey shortly that will allow them to let us know more about their interests so we can best match them to a special opportunity.”
This would indicate that those who received excel emails are all but accepted at this point, no?
Does it also mean that if you are selected for Excel you most likely will not get a merit scholarship?
Just now got the Excel email… I guess they’re still sending them out
OOS DD received email to rate preference for Chancellor Science Honors Program, Honors Carolina, and Carolina Research Scholars Program. Does that really mean she’s in? Which one is best? I guess she needs to look into these asap…
@maryt2017 Are you out-of-state? My best guess is that they sent the in-state e-mails last week and are now sending them to the out-of-state applicants. Also, what is the deadline listed? Last week’s email said the deadline to reply was the 9th.
I just got the e-mail asking me to take the survey as well with a deadline on January 16th. I’m out-of-state.
@adp106 I’m OOS in Arkansas and the deadline it gives is 1/16. 36 on ACT, 4.0+ GPA, NMSF, lots of ECs and leadership
@maryt2017 Then I’m pretty sure my theory is right about out-of-staters receiving the email today. Great stats by the way.
