UNC Class of 2021 EA

DS also received the email and we are OOS and he has high stats too.

Now the real question I suppose is whether or not those who receive the email are finalists for the excel opportunities or if UNC emails everyone who took the excel survey on the common app.

Well still no email for me

Received email today OOS 30 ACT 31 superscore 4.34W/4 but any happen to look at past threads and see what is up with the email?

@Harryp17 Did you check your junk folder?

But is says that on the website “Please note that interest in these programs have no bearing on your admission decision, and the completion of this survey is not required for admission” so it shouldn’t have a bearing on decisions but correct me if I am wrong

@mike8888 Yes, but if they are emailing you it indicates that THEY are interested in YOU for the programs. It says that the completion of the survey is not required for admission but it doesn’t say that it won’t help. Then again, all this is open to interpretation so what do I know?

we will soon find out. Hopefully by Jan.28

@adp106 in case if u r wondering they only have one choice for a preffered program on my survey, and since I put business at the time of the app only business pops up in the survey if anyone is interested. all of us is probably wondering whether receipt of the email means that we have gotten in to arts and sciences school or I think it was LSA for like michigan u and not yet for like preferred schools like business if you know what I mean

Still no email for me, oos ACT 35/SAT 1580 GPA probably 4.9 but my school figures it weirdly so it’s 5.6.

@mike8888 I’m not quite sure I understand what you’re saying.

@orwellparasiempre This may be because they are planning on inviting you to Scholarship Day.

people who get the excel email can still be invited to Scholarship Day

There is a thread from last year that says they didn’t have Scholarship Day last year. You just received notice if you were awarded a scholarship.

@adp106 i meant that do they first admit u to a school in the college undeclared than consider if u can attend the business school in the college

^“If you would like to be considered for any of these Excel@Carolina opportunities, please indicate your interest in up to three opportunities below. Please note also that your interest in any of these opportunities will not affect your admission to the University in any way.”

My DD received the email survey for Carolina Honors and Kenan business school today. She is OOS GPA 5.19 W/4.0 UW. ACT 33. NHRP and AP scholar with Distinction, lots of ECs and leadership. Sadly unless she gets a merit scholarship UNC will be out of budget, since she has gotten several full tuition awards from other schools. This thread has me concerned that she is no longer in the running for any merit. Any thoughts?

I didn’t get the email, but I’m wondering a couple of things:

  1. Is it more difficult to get into Honors Carolina if you’re OOS?
  2. If the only Excel opportunity that you checked off is Honors Carolina, would you not get an email since there would be nothing for you to rank in order of preference?
    Thanks

Take a look at this thread from last year:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-north-carolina-chapel-hill/1858774-high-stats-no-honors-or-merit-scholarships.html

Take anything you get as a blessing.

@Cubanmom3 I wouldn’t say she was out of the running just yet but it is quite rare for anyone to get merit scholarships (only 140 of 10,000+ get one including those you must apply for like Morehead Cain etc) and most of these do go to in-state students as UNC is funded by NC residents. Around 80% of admitted students are from NC and just from those stats alone, only around 20% of merit scholarships would go to out of state students. So it is extremely rare for an OOS student to get a merit scholarship, but again not impossible.
