@caligirl14567 thank you for your reply! The strangest thing about this is she never choose Carolina honors in her initial survey choices…not sure what this means but nice to see they are still looking at her application. I guess like everyone else we will just have to wait a few more weeks.
@dolemite Absolutely ! You are right.
we are both more than grateful and blessed for everything she is given she has also worked very hard the last few years making sure this would happen. Good luck
My daughter is currently an OOS student ( northeast) at UNC. I don’t recall her filling out any surveys or getting any emails. She did not make honors - graduated #1 with an unweighted gpa of 4.0, high scores, very good ECs etc. getting into honors from OOS is difficult.
Does anyone know if anyone ever got into the excel program that did NOT get an email?
I applied to Chancellor’s Science Scholars Program, Honors Carolina, MacDonald Community Service Scholars Program and have not received any email back after checking my junk. I had 1570 SAT, 35 ACT, 4.0, valedictorian. I won 1st place in a national competition, National AP scholar, conducted two major research projects (one of which got published), founded my own club, volunteered with city council and started my own international fundraiser along with volunteering in a hospital in Nepal. I have numerous leadership positions and math/science awards as well.
@Harryp17 are you out of state or instate? Those are amazing stats…I am sure you will have some great choices! once all decisions are released.
@adp106 Thanks. I hope so.
Guesses as to when decisions will be released?
For the last two years they have been around the 28th I believe but you don’t need to worry, looking at your stats, you will definitely get in. @orwellparasiempre
@mike8888 Your quote is from the initial survey on the common app. However, if they are contacting you asking for more information, it would imply that not only are you interested in excel, but they are interested in you. I don’t see why they would ask for that if they did not intend on admitting you.
@adepani3112 Thanks, though I can’t assume anything with a 15% oos acceptance rate
- It is definitely more difficult to get into Honors as an OOS. Not that it’s impossible, but it is more selective than IS.
- I know people who only selected one opportunity and received the email. The email says that the additional information is part of the selection criteria - meaning it is not only used to rank multiple interests.
I agree with @adp106 that’s why I’m so worried that I didn’t get one. True OOS is extremely competitive but I strongly believe you have an extremely high chance of getting in @orwellparasiempre
thanks @collegemomjam . I am OOS but still a little disappointed I didnt received Excel Carolina. Hopefully, I get a merit scholarship. I guess I will just have to wait till the 28th
Alright everyone well I’m gonna post something you don’t see very often here… I AM AN OOS APPLICANT WITH LOW STATS!!! Relatively speaking. 28 ACT and 3.85 GPA. Yep. An ACT under 30, and a GPA under a 4.0. And I still had the guts to apply!! gasp well to all of those who are worried about getting an email, some of us just hope we have a fighting chance at getting in. All jokes aside, I wish the best for everyone, and here’s to hoping my ECs and standout essays can keep admissions from ruling me out based on quantitative data. in under a month I hope to be one of the first I’ve seen to GET INTO UNC OOS…without near perfect stats!!! We shall see. Goodluck all
Hi everyone I am an instate applicant with a 36 ACT and 2250 SAT who has not received an Excel email. I don’t want to be cocky, but should I maybe email the staff about being able to take the survey?
So when I first submitted my application, I realized that I reported my weighted GPA on a 6-point scale (my county gives two additional points in AP classes and one additional point for an honors class). I’ve since spoken to admissions and they told me it wasn’t a big deal and that the secondary school report and transcript would list the correct information.
I’m no longer worried about it but I was just wondering if anyone else did the same thing? I’ve heard it’s a common mistake.
@panthersfan98 I mean I guess it can’t hurt? But there might be a reason why they did not send you the email so patience might be the best path here
@adp106 I also reported mine on a 6.0 scale. I was not aware we were not supposed to? My district (CMS) does the same, AP classes count as 6, honors 5, standard 4. I am pretty sure admissions will know what we mean, especially since we are in-state and the largest districts in the state use this weighting method
@caligrl14567 It is supposed to be a 4-point scale. The idea is that although the max points you can get is 6 (from an AP class), these points are “additional” to the base scale of 4. My weighted GPA is a 4.87, so it would be 4.87/4, instead of 4.87/6. I personally think that it should be listed as a 6-point scale but it isn’t.
And yeah, I spoke to one of the assistant admissions directors (the communications specialists and admissions counselors were not sure how to answer my question for some reason) so I’m not sweating it, just wondering how many other people did the same thing.
