@adp106 “This would indicate that those who received excel emails are all but accepted at this point, no?”
It’s a fair presumption based on the emails previously being sent out after acceptances and it doesn’t make sense to have applicants complete a survey if they are then going to deny admission. With that said, the application process is so unpredictable we just need to wait it out and see how it goes. Good luck to everyone!
When I visited, they said that they look at your classes and grades in the context of what’s offered at your school. So I’d assume that means GPA matters less than rigor of courses and grades in them.
The grading scale each school uses is in the school profile submitted with your transcript. Colleges use your school profile to get a sense of where your grades fall in the context of your schools grading scale.
@orwellparasiempre What do you mean your school gave them? We are talking about the self-reporting GPA section in the Common App.
And yes, that is exactly right. They are going to see the rigor and specific grades on the transcript, as well as the correct GPA and GPA scale. That’s why admissions told me not to worry about it.
@nduclaunc I applaud you for trying! My D is as well even though we don’t really have much hope, lol, but heck, can’t know till we try, right? Who knows, if they really are holistic as they keep saying then maybe a great essay can get you both in! She is OOS w/ a 29 ACT, 4.3 gpa weighted. Only 18% admission OOS but oh well, they can say no & probably will but nothing ventured nothing gained!
Hi everyone! I am an in-state student, with a 27 ACT and a 1200 SAT score… and I got the email about the Excel@Carolina survey. I also chose the Science Scholars and assured admission to the pharmacy school. Does anyone else think that it could’ve been emailed randomly because I am pretty sure a lot of people beat me with test scores?
@orwellparasiempre Haha, no, as I said before, I contacted admissions when I first learned about it myself in October and they told me that they were going to get the GPA scale from the transcript and secondary school report. Self-reporting on the Common App is just a formality.
@panthersfan98 I’m an in state student with 35 ACT and 4.5 GPA but haven’t received any email. I wouldn’t be worried about not receiving one. Maybe it is a method to help spill kids into other programs if one got “overchose”?
