Hi!International student from China!
@res0601 I received the same letter. Basically we are sorry if we don’t accept your kid - don’t hold it against us.
I’m sure ppl have complained about this in the past but notifying in late January isn’t much of an Early Action. It needs to be at least by mid-December so kids can skip RD apps if they get in and know they want to attend.
@YXZ9978 Nice to see someone coming from Asia!!
@Dolemite - I concur. Doesn’t make sense to have October 15th EA deadline and decisions released in laresponse January.
@ccyen328 Hi!I hope to see you all next fall! UNC is famous for being very strict on international student admission,so…
@YXZ9978 why is UNC on your list?
Well, I went to North Carolina last year and people there are just so nice. They are all nice and friendly to me.Also,I want to study social science and UNC is very strong in that part.
@YXZ9978 Yes. We just have to keep our figures crossed.
The legacy letter sent to UNC alumni-parents is the same one that goes out every year. It’s meant to mollify alums, while gently telling them that being an in-state legacy won’t help Junior a bit.
Well I got the OOS one and it did say that last year 49% of OOS legacies were admitted compared to 14% on non-legacies.
Congrats–as you noted, legacy helps quite a bit OOS. In-state legacies have an acceptance rate around 60%, but that is not due to any preference over non-legacies.
Did everybody open the email about applying for financial aid a couple of hours ago? We must be getting close!
@Ceciliaagnes - I received the email from UNC and also very similar emails from several other schools today, even though I completed all that a while back. No bearing on admission decisions. Just automated emails from a different system.
UNC EA results won’t come out until late January.
Does anyone here know how to send an applicant update? i have a few achievements that I’d like to notify the admissions officers about. I know UVA has a seperate email address for submitting these but does UNC not want/need them?
@insula you can send your updates to uncsubmit@admissions.unc.edu
Thank you so much @AngelaD
Someone asked about the date of decision release, UNC admission office replied: “By the end of January! We really do read everything y’all send, so hang in there. Good things are worth waiting for”
