@musicandscience we have the exact same scores, hiccup friend (:
Feeling confident about tomorrow. I made to the semifinal round of Morehead Cain but not finals. I know it doesn’t signify admissions to Carolina but still quite optimistic about my chances! Hope it goes well for everyone else!
@musicandscience Not necessarily… I think that they will be much more concerned with the quality of your essays, not you ACT essay score. They do not even recommend submitting your writing score so I they probably don’t even look at that unless it was between you and someone with the same stats and perhaps a higher score… They know that timed essays are not always an accurate reflection of one’s writing quality, especially when the prompts are not something you have been studying all semester for like you might have on a written exam in college.
do you guys think my 30 act and 4.7 WGPA is enough for in state
@Bella2018 my method is to breathe in, hold my breath for ten seconds, and then breathe in again without breathing out and hold it for another 10 s. Then inhale as much as you can without letting out any air and hold it for as long as you can. You should be at the extreme limits of your breath-holding ability at the end of it. And you can repeat after a pause for recovery if they’re not quite gone. Works every time!
OMG long lost twins??? @Bella2018
oof so nervous about tomorrow… not sure what to expect! 34 ACT and OOS. I have legacy, but I’m still expecting the worst
@nycbaygul I can relate! I’m an OOS legacy as well, although I have a 33 on the ACT. I’m an URM (Hispanic), so kind of hoping that might help, but it’s just so nerve-wracking.
Legacy, 32 single session ACT, 1470 single session SAT, National Honor Society, National Merit Semifinalist (ongoing), 100+ volunteer hours logged with school’s Kiwanis Key Club, recruited lacrosse player from all three NCAA divisions (Varsity captain), classical guitarist and visual artist, shooting sports (shotgun, rifle, archery) varsity for 4 years, 12 AP’s, 3.91 UWGPA, 4.91 WGPA, ranked 21 of 451, Junior Marshal, in-state.
I’m losing my mind. Please chance me.
I’m stressing badly…I’m an OOS legacy, but highly doubt I’ll be admitted. Reread my essays and man, they sucked. I wrote about a really hard time in my life, during another hard time in my life. Don’t think it was my full potential, and scared to disappoint my parents. Best of luck to everyone else
anyone else regretting doing early action hearing that they had 45,000 applicants for early action alone? i feel like doing regular would have increased my chances because less people do regular. hindsight bias.
@clemson22 EA is the way to go. They fill up a good chunk of their class and way and remember a ton of folks get deferred. If you want your best shot at UNC you do EA. RD is even harder.
3.6 unweighted gpa, but a 4.7 weighted gpa and 32 act. im in state, how worried should i be?
@Helen5397 I also applied for Computer Science and I’m pretty sure I did BS but mine also says AS. There are o two types of computer science programs at UNC-CH BS and BA so idk where AS came from.
All of you guys seem wonderful!! I really think you have nothing to worry about, my stats are nothing in comparison. I have a 29 on act (one session) and 4.62 weighted gpa , in state & rural county but so stressed. I have no idea how I will get in when I see everything you guys have to offer! Wow you all are amazing. My only hope at this point is my personal essays and I have worked 20 hrs a week during school since freshman year, I had my English teacher do a recommendation for me and I had my manager do one as well because I thought it might show a side of me that my application couldn’t show as much… I’m actually a salesperson at only 18 , idk if that looks good or not. Just freaking out!! Oh and also I am a first generation!
@watdapuck I have almost exact same scores and I’m also in state- I think it comes down to essays and ECs and letter of rec
@Pastpower haha love the fast response! Thank you for this. Makes me feel somewhat better
Also, probably should have mentioned this earlier, but something that stood out on my visit when I spoke to the assistant admissions director was that they prefer you writing about the impact of your activities more under the activities Supplement of their app rather than put a resume as it gives them a chance to better see you as a person and not just a document. That’s beeen the deciding factor sometimes.
@watdapuck unc isn’t numbers based. its hollistic. meaning stats will help you but if you don’t wow them in your essays and who you are as a person, its game over. so as long as you showed who you really are, you have a shot. literally everyone has a shot.
anyone know how many people typically get deferred? and of those deferrals how many get accepted RD?
