Assuming you are an admitted first year, you have to take the pre-reqs your Freshman and Sophomore years before applying for your Junior Year in the program. I believe that most of the professional schools (Journalism, Business etc.) admit a majority of their students around junior year. Apparently, there are a couple (2?) different programs you can apply for in your Junior year that have varying lengths. The shorter program (that gets you your degree sooner) is more competitive?

I couldn’t find any admission statistics from the nursing program itself, but a quick Google search turned up this:

[UNC Chapel Hill Nursing Program](<a href=“UNC Chapel Hill Nursing Program - North Carolina Nursing”>UNC Chapel Hill Nursing Program - North Carolina Nursing)

“No, I don’t think they are as strict for the 24-month program. They have a 2.5 GPA [requirement] for the 24-month program. When I read the 3.4-.3.5 thing on the transcripts from their chat session, that was just an average, so they accepted people way below and way above that.”

“I’m nervous about my GPA too b/c I think the average GPA (based from their admission forum) is around 3.4-3.5 and I’m no where close to that, but I’m hoping that they see us both as what we can offer the nursing field and not just as GPA’s. I hope we end up in the program together…that would be exciting!”

UNC’s nursing program is one of the best in the country and they just decreased enrollment by 25% due to budget cuts. This would make it more competitive for future applicants. A 3.4-3.5 GPA especially from Carolina’s science pre-reqs seems pretty tough. Very few people make As in the intro Chem, and Bio courses. Most people make Cs = 2.0GPA. Though maybe your other classes will help bring up the GPA.

Also, not sure if residency factors in, but they do mention they look for past service experience, essays etc. outside of GPA.

Hope that helps!

Wow thank you so much for the information. I really appreciate it!
