my major is Econ, so which school do you think is better for me? =)

depends on your personality. those 3 schools are just about as far apart personality-wise as i can imagine. personally, i LOVE UNC. just finished my visit there this weekend. the atmosphere is great…the campus is beautiful, and there’s a ton of school spirit mixed with nice people. i have no interest in new york, but if you like the city feel, and more ‘liberal’ people, it’s a perfect fit. IMO, michigan is becoming a dead state, although UM is still a very good school, and i think was also listed as one of the ‘new ivies.’ just my .02

on second thought, don’t go to UNC! i need the waitlist spot!

i have made my decision, UNC xp

jking~reli need to think about the choices

TBH, they’re all amazing academic schools. think about what you want out of a school outside of academics. do a little research yourself, and figure out what matches you best. **************.com was pretty helpful to me.

I agree w/ mkcman17. Academics is one thing but you may hate the actual campus life. For instances, NYU is located in the heart of Manhattan. Their is no real campus, its just a bunch of buildings near a park. The drug and alcohol scene at NYU is very huge especially in that darn Washington Square Park. If you don’t like LGBT people then NYU may not be for you because its located right near Greenwich village. And its so much more…

I would go for UNC

Yeah, I would agree that you need to think about school atmosphere and your own personality. I’m transferring from NYU to (as long as financial aid is okay) UNC, for a lot of those kinds of differences. UNC has a real campus, and a ton of school spirit. NYU has no campus, and school spirit is pretty non-existent. NYU has a lot of huge classes, especially for general requirements, UNC makes a point to keep most class sizes small. Also, let me add that a LOT of students here are unhappy with the school, where I’ve heard the opposite for UNC. Also, I’ve heard the social life for transfer students to NYU is pretty difficult, because after freshman year the residence halls are really unfriendly.

But, I’m completely biased! So keep that in mind :)

how about University of Michigan-Ann Arbor??
what do you guys think about this school?

everyone should reject UNC so i can get my waitlist spot.

I don’t know much about University of Michigan-Ann Harbor. But if you don’t like snow then there’s another factor to consider.

Definitely UNC. Here is why I would choose Chapel Hill:

MOST IMPORTANT: The weather. Winters in North Carolina are not cold. The state freaks out over 0.25 inches of snow. Trust me, you will LOVE the weather. Plus, NC has beautiful beaches.

UNC arguably has the best academics (other than NYU Stern and Michigan Engineering).

UNC has TONS of school spirit. As a Duke fan, I hear it ALLLLL the time from Tarheels how great their school is.

Southern hospitality is in full swing. Most everyone is friendly.

UNC is unlike the state of North Carolina. It is known as one of the most liberal schools in the state… I don’t know if you’re male or female, but the guy-to-girl ratio is like 60:40 (just something to think about).

In general, I have NEVER met anyone who didn’t like UNC. And all of what I said is true… I am a North Carolinian so I know like 10 billion students there.

Michigan definitely. I disagree with the post above. Michigan has the best academics and it’s the best school of the three for econ. Ann Arbor is basically the ultimate college town with everything you could ever imagine. The people of Ann Arbor and Michigan students love to show off their pride for their school. The sports here are insane! I could list so much more but that’s my two cents.

"The weather. Winters in North Carolina are not cold. The state freaks out over 0.25 inches of snow. Trust me, you will LOVE the weather. "

I seriously cracked up at that line.
Anything colder than 60 degrees is freezing for me lol

I would say UNC. The thing is, I want a campus and I know NYU does not have that and it is true how many students are very unhappy there and it is VERY different from UNC.
Do you want more of arts/big city or school spirit/college town?
Both schools are amazing in academics but personality wise, you need to see what type of person you are.

btw CONGRATS on getting into those schools :)

Umich has the best undergraduate economics program out of the three of them. You haven’t specifically stated where you want to live or what you want to do post-grad so we can only speculate which would be the best but on rankings and quality of program alone it would be Umich > Nyu > UNC.

wait. u already received decision from nyu?

Umich> than UNC but if you are a scholar/have limited funding/want to stay instate then by no means is UNC mediocre. NYU is only really worth it if you are sick of your city and want to move out into a melting pot city and to major in finance (as in you are dead set on it-only want to study finance related modules and are very strong in math). Umich has the name, an actual campuse, double of NYU’s endowment, all rounded-the whole school and the Ross BBA degree. Arthur Miller, Madonna, Larry Page are some of its alumnis. Should I get admitted, I plan to transfer to NYU because Tisch has a program that Mich does not have and alongside that I will apply for undergrad business. Incidentally (if you happen to be one of those people who are fixated with prestige) it is only worth it to go to NYU if you’re accepted into Tisch and or Stern. The former especially for its alumni.

On a related note, I find it funny how americans complain about NYU’s lack of campus. Over in England, most universities save the scottish ones, oxford, cambridge, durham and warwick dont really have a campus to speak of! Especially London universities. Yet LSE receives an inordinate amount of American applications each year!

thank you~i am still waiting for cornell and UCs,…but honestly i dun think i have any chance… wakkaka

Decisions for NYU are not out yet…early May i guess
