I have a pretty big dilemma concerning colleges right now. I submitted deposits to both UNC and Ohio State for next year because I can’t make up my mind. I’ve visited Ohio State twice and I never really felt a connection to it. I am in the scholars program which is good but I honestly don’t see myself there. I do have a scholarship as well. On the other hand, I loved UNC when I visited and truly get excited even thinking about it. It’s ranked very high in both my major and minor- psychology and business. The problem is I would have to go into debt. Any thoughts?
Would your debt be the Stafford/Perkins loans or do you mean your parents would have the loans?
My parents would have to take out loans regardless of where I would go. I will be taking out the federal loans, so max $27,000. They both have high salaries, they just cannot pay out of pocket right now as we just had a couple of rough years with cancer, job unemployment, Alzheimer’s etc. I just found out however that I won a scholarship so that’ll help out!
Congrats! Do you have any siblings who will also be in school? Did you fill out the FA forms?
That was a hard choice for my son as he got into both as well. He did love Ohio State but that was OOS for him. End of day he picked UNC and absolutely loves it. He knows he made the right decision. 1st year freshman down. Did you decide yet?
Transfer or freshman? Id suggest moving there if you plan to go there to cut your tuition. But 27k per year 54k 2 yrs and 4 yrs years 108k would be outrageous payments for a very long time how far you stretch it out itll be a good chunk for 15 yrs minimum.
I think he meant $27k over the 4 years.
Oh
My D was accepted into the OSU scholars program and to UNC. She never had a doubt she wanted to go to UNC and has been very happy there. Trust your gut feeling. Either way you will be in a good situation.
Both are Great Schools. Ohio state has as much school spirit as unc. It just comes down to where you want to live and what degree you want?
It’s hard to find a unbiased decision
UNC is ranked higher overall academically, being one of the original eight “Public Ivies”.
UNC - 29,000+ students
Ohio - 58,000+
UNC - 13:1 student/faculty ratio
Ohio - 18:1
UNC - 39.2% of classes with under 20 students
Ohio - 29.6%
