Typecast you sound like a wonderfully dedicated actor and I really feel for you. This is a brutal process and I’m really not sure how intelligent a process it is. You will succeed, because your drive and love of the art will carry you through. But I am so sorry to hear it’s been so tough.

I agree with Gwen Fairfax. Typecast, your energy and optimism is an inspiration.

Thanks guys still waiting to hear from a few more schools but I do have a backup plan I love stage makeup and wigs and there are a few great BFA programs out there and this work will def pay the rent, Juillard even has a amazing apprentice program but don’t could me out yet !

Typecast - totally not counting you out!!!

SO, if NCSA takes 26 total - and I know when they used to take 30 that it was 20 boys and 10 girls - right? So, if they are now taking 26 - thats only 8 or 9 girls total , and if over 60% of those are out of state - that’s 3 maybe 4 spots for out of state girls. Had I truly understood this - would not have encouraged her to apply!

Blueskies 1108 I read from another poster this info. But these schools are so weird, I know when I did call backs at Texas State they had a info session with their students one girl a freshman said they took her and one other out of state boy for the class of 2015 so I asked if they had a limit of out of state kids they took being a state school as well and the head of the department stated no we have no set limit, we only found two out of staters we liked for that year,I find that really hard to believe!

I’m not sure where anyone is getting the statistic that they take 16 instate spots because it’s just not true at all. In UNCSA’s current year there are only 8 in state students. It varies by year. I’m not even sure if they try to take a certain percentage of instate students because, due to the high level of reputation the school carries and the low cost of its instate tuition, more students from NC probably audition than anyone else, leading to a higher probability of more people being accepted from NC.

The percentage of instate students should not deter anyone from applying to any school if the program is enough for you.

break a leg to you all and don’t worry about percentages!

SoT

UNCSA is a part of the UNC system though, right? It’s so hard for out of state people to get into the NC system in general, and the fact that UNCSA is a conservatory only accepting 26 makes it kind of impossible… especially for girls (because they take less)

Son of Tranquil- were those people in your class Waitlisted? Gah! UNCSA is such an amazing program I’d kill to go there!

My s went to the summer drama program at NCSA. They get around the state requirement for % of instate students because almost all their high school program kids are from instate (there are 2 slots for out of state students and the summer my s went, one of the slots for the upcoming year was slated for Forrest Whittaker’s child). So they can get around the state legislative mandate that way.

I actually recently did some investigating about this, but only through students so don’t hold me too accountable.

Apparently, overall UNCSA (Not just drama, but dance, dnp, film, etc.) must take a certain amount of in state students. I’m not sure how much the specifically effects drama.

Ohhaybfa- I only know of one person in my studio who came off of the waitlist. They were an in-state student. There could be others but no one has ever said so.

Bump. This thread has served as the info thread for UNCSA for three years running so I figured we might as well bump it back. This school has vaulted to school 1B after CMU as 1A on my daughter’s dream school list. As an acting kid who also has MT interests, it is just about perfect because they actually incorporate some dance and vocal training into their acting program and put on MT productions.

In years past, it sounds like they’ve sent rejection letters our before acceptance letters. Unless they change it around, this one is a wait by the mailbox school.

I have been able to read the CalArts and Guthrie posts with interest but no gut wrenching stomach churning feeling as my son did not audition for those programs. This one, however, is his #1 choice and I am dreading the mailbox as much as I am hoping…ugh.

This is my S number one school. We know the chances are slim but he just loves this school- when we first visited he said, " It’s just like Hogwarts without the owls."

I know…and he loves the mascot, he has loved this school for 3 years.

Every time one of these threads gets bumped, my heart rate jumps tri-fold.

Do you mean the campus looks Hogwarts?

Shacherry- He meant it was magical.

I called admissions today make sure we were on track and we were missing an important document…so glad I called!!!

photomom5- you inspired me to call and check too! we are good- so glad you called!

I have just checked the UNCSA website where you can check your materials received. Is that enough if it is all complete?
