Im an incoming freshman and was wondering how many hours i should take first semester? ive heard a lot of stories about freshman struggling with their GPAs first semester of freshman year because of a failure to adjust to life at tech. As of right now, im thinking about taking maybe 14?

Math 1502-4
Chem 1310-4
Eng 1102-3
Psych 1101-3

sounds about right? or should i take more or less? and what about GT1000..i heard it helps "adjust" but is it worth the extra class time or should i skip it? thanks

That’s a very good schedule to start off with. I think it really is “just right.”

I don’t feel that there’s much value in taking GT 1000. The course doesn’t teach you anything you can’t learn from reading Fastweb or simply asking current students or alums, whether in-person, here at CC, or elsewhere.

@ fabrizio what if your unsure about which type of engineering you want to do?

^

If you haven’t already received credit for them, take the core classes that apply to all majors and pick a few that apply to all engineering majors. For example, everyone has to take ENGL 1101 and 1102. All engineers have to take the full calculus sequence and if I’m not mistaken, the intro physics sequence. Start with the basics and complete those before you make your decision.

^
ya, but my problem is, im considering chem E also, and chem majors dont take chem 1310 but 1211k. My AP score will get me out of 1211k.

sorry, for hijacking your thread swan1991

Add in HPS1040 and that’s a reasonable schedule. Right now it’s very light (even with HPS it’ll be light).

Re #5

Apparently things have changed since I got out in May.

I guess you’d have to talk to the various advisors to see if they care between CHEM 1310 and CHEM 1211K. I haven’t even been an alum for two months and already my knowledge of the school is out-of-date :(

thanks for the update…i guess i might be doing that 1211k or whatever it is as well…so i guess itll be

Chem 1211k?!? lol
Eng 1102
Math 1502
Psych 1101
and HPS1040.

Sounds good. It’s a relatively light schedule, but it’s enough hours that you won’t fall behind. It’s also flexible enough for several majors.

Good luck.
