Based on Poets and Quants ranking - Kelley is #6 & McCombs - #12. I like the P&Q ranking because it is based on multiple factors as opposed to US News - based on ranking by Admissions people in various colleges.
Also, P&Q ranks Indiana as #2 in Employment while McCombs - #20. Also compensation for Kelley - $82800 while McCombs - $65620. So, Kelley is coming out ahead of McCombs (regular) on many of the key metrics.
How would you compare Kelley vs UT BHP (Business Honors Program). Is the starting average salary of UT BHP closer to Kelley’s figure?
Would appreciate feedback regarding UT BHP salaries from alumni? Also, how much better UT BHP compared to regular McCombs Undergrad business program.
I looked at the website you quote for rankings, all it has is MBA Rankings. Such rankings don’t apply for Undergrad business as the ideas of the schools are completely different (undergrad focuses on more of a survey, MBA focuses more on specific training for your industry). So, I would not use those rankings, as any employer will not when coming out of an undergrad program.
As someone who got into both (non BHP for McCombs), and chose neither, I would say first it is important to consider the industries they feed to/where graduates go. Much of McCombs grads tend to stay in Texas for their start in the workforce as there is enough wealth to do so. So, not much weight outside of texas. Kelly is a little bit better as undergrads do go to NY, but many still stay in the midwest. So, any salary data is based on that as well as major: UT produces many accountants, where as many kelly students go into IB/banking to escape Indiana, hence the salary difference. But, the number 2 in employment is also based off this, as its the only notable school for the state, and many local great schools like UChicago and Northwestern go to NY, so there is a shortage in the midwest for local talent. So, it depends on what you want to do. If you chose kelly for IB promise, note that it is the runt of the litter in terms of IB target business schools, so it will be an uphill battle. Still, some make it, hence a higher salary.
I can speak a little to the BHP compared to normal McCombs as I did get the interview and got to ask questions. Essentially, its just a badge, just like Regents is with UCs. Its nice to have, but you wont get a substantially different experience at the school you go to. You may even struggle like a normal student, but its just about that extra badge for hiring. To me, it makes it so you can go outside of Texas easier, especially if you wish to break into IB. For context, my interviewer for the program had a NY area code.
