Undergrad - UT Business Honors Program vs Georgetown McDonough School of Business

I’m a high school senior in Texas and have been accepted to University of Texas Business Honors Program and Georgetown McDonough School of Business. I have my eyes on a career in investment banking - Wall Street or somewhere in that area. Georgetown costs significantly more however my parents will be willing to pay more if they feel that Georgetown is worth it. In terms of overall prestige, job placement, and quality of education – which school would be better? Right now, I plan on pursuing finance and on a Bloomberg Business ranking system, Georgetown undergrad was #1 for finance and I’m not sure how accurate that is.

Which would be best for banking in NYC? UT’s BHP would definitely place well in Texas, but I’ve heard it doesn’t hold much recognition in the Northeast. Does Georgetown have innate advantages over UT because of its location in Washington D.C. and extensive connections through the alumni network?
Thank you for your time and input.

I’m currently a junior in high school and plan to apply to the same colleges. Do you have any tips in terms of the application process and interviews and could you post your stats so I can see what to aim for. Also, did you have to do an interview for the both of them?

I would say UT BHP is up to par with Georgetowns business program. If your parents will be saving a significant amount of money from BHP, I think that would be your best bet. Honestly, the quality of education from both colleges are great and you can’t go wrong with either one. You can always go to a more prestigious college in the Northeast for an MBA and network from there.

No way is UT BHP on par with Georgetown’s business program. Georgetown McDonough enjoys pretty strong recruiting for bulge bracket banks for a lot of offices, whereas UT BHP is more like a regional target in my opinion (just from reading threads on Wall Street Oasis- check this resource out for information regarding which schools are “strong” targets and from what banks etc.). Goldman Sachs is one of Georgetown McDonough’s top recruiters but at UT BHP you’d probably get interview chances as well, so network hard and you should be fine. It’s up to you to decide whether the cost difference is worth the slight boost in recruiting at Georgetown. Don’t look at rankings so much for recruiting- it’s about the number of alumni in each bank from each school that is important. Good luck.
