Prospective Business/Finance major with an interest in possibly exploring Economics as well (more likely as a minor).

I have visited UT many times and will be visiting UVA for the first time for a "day on the lawn" session soon. I'm going back and forth between these schools and all they have to offer me. Both UVA and UT seem to have great social scenes with highly regarded business schools that offer fantastic opportunities to study abroad and intern. At UT I'm already in the business school where as with McIntire I'd have to apply, like everyone, during my second year. The UT BHP perhaps offers more individual attention(~110 students per year vs ~300 at McIntire) but UVA is a much smaller university with a more impressive student body as a whole(Due to holistic admissions vs top 9% rule).

I'm basically just asking for any advice or insight people might have into both of these schools and the advantages/disadvantages of both.. specifically the difficulty of admission into McIntire. At this point I desire to work in NYC upon graduation and even though BHP does place many students there, I assume McIntire has an advantage?

Note: Also posting this thread on the UVA forum.

McCombs itself is quite comparable to Virginia; however BHP within McCombs is blows both away. In fact, many recruiters who come to Texas will look solely at BHP kids (the mckinseys, bains, and goldmans of the world). BHP has a case study approach, which is quite unique at the undergrad level, and recruiting/placement is better than basically everywhere save Wharton and possibly Sloan. And that isnt an exaggeration either.

All 3 are fantastic programs though, but BHP is also incredibly hard to get into as a freshman (avg 2 part SAT was 1500). You can transfer in as a sophomore thougg

DrizzyDrake, I’ve been accepted into BHP which is why I’m leaning towards UT. No worries about transferring, etc like I’d have at McIntire

Like DrizzyDrake said, McCombs and McIntire in general are fairly close together. UVA has a SLIGHT edge, but nothing big.

If you’ve been admitted into BHP, then I say go with that. That is more prestigious IMO and you don’t have to worry about transferring.

UT McCombs doesn’t exactly “feed” into NYC though. Although there are a good number of positions recruited for NY, UT mainly feeds into Houston and Dallas. If you’re in BHP, you’ll have a better shot.

@Drizzy, you have no idea what you’re talking about.

If you want NYC, UVA is better.

@Plutarchy You don’t have a clue. UVA is better than mccombs as a whole for NYC, it’s not better than BHP

@Drizzy, I recruit for a bulge bracket investment bank, you’re 17 years old, still in high school. Get a clue kid and when you’re actually in college, maybe then you can give advice.
