undergraduate research for credit

In the honors courses listings there is a 'course' listed as undergraduate research and it is for credit. Do a lot of people do this? Is it a difficult thing to arrange? Are there interesting projects available? How many credits are usually given? It says variable, but wondering if there is a more common number. Thanks for any info.

Usually you have to be doing research with someone already and then you ask if you can get credit for it. Soime PI’s will allow research credit early, but its usually up to you to find a group/PI that interest you and get in contant with them to see if they need another student.

Thanks, ASMAJ. Does it happen very often? I’m just thinking that as a premed, it will be difficult to take a full load of premed type classes, and do research on the side without getting elective credit for it. Are many people able to swing this and do well in their courses? I’d like to be involved in a long-term project if I can find something that really interests me. Something longer than a summer, but I don’t want to jeopardize my grades. I also need some time for fun and relaxation, exercise. Hope it’s possible to do all of this!

yes it is a bring your own research type thing. you have to find a research mentor and just have him fill out the form to get approved by an advisor prior to drop add week. it is not a real class you just have to fill out the form and your mentor decides on your grade, etc.
