I want to go this Ivy league because I’ll ‘fit’ there

Yeah right! all of you do it for the prestige. Personally, I want to go to a top school because employers are impressed by people who attend them. Yes, I WANT PRESTIGE.

I’m not competitive…I actually help others

CC’ers are so cut throat…giving people false information or praising their essay even though you know it sucks.

I volunteer and do comm. service because I enjoy doing it

I would never believe this in a million years…what kind of teenagers actually like doing community service when they could actually be doing something much more fun. I never liked community service. From what I see, all of you are the most self-centered people on the planet, the last thing you would do is help other people.

I’m so stressed out…how am i going to raise my 2300 to 2400 on the SAT

This is outrageous! You know it and I dont have to say much more than this.

I want to major in _______ and specialize in ________ and my career is going to be ________

Teachers, counselors, and everyone else has told me that people who say that most likely end up switching their major or career and everything else.

We all know that we want the prestige (perhaps more facilities) but that's about it. Who's claiming that they would only fit in Ivy league schools?

Who's claiming that they're not competitive. Why else would we all be vying for top schools? CC is a community so that we can help each other try to get to the top.

Some people actually like helping others, believe it or not.... Just because you just do it for college doesn't mean that everyone does.

Sadly, I must agree on this one, lol.

Though most people are likely to switch majors and careers, there are a few of us that might stick to the same goals. However, even if we were to change, I don't see how that makes CCers horrible.

You know, if you don't like CCers that much, there's nothing keeping you on here.

^^ agreed. Though my intended major (linguistics) has about ~150 universities that offer it, the only ones that are actually good are top ~25 ('cept for UCSC).

I visited a bunch of schools, ivy and non-ivy, but the clear best fit for me happened to be Ivy League. Does that make me a bad person? Obviously the prestige is great, but what it came down to was fit...I felt more comfortable at this particular schools than at some non-ivies i was investigating. So please don't overgeneralize...a couple of my very top choices (other than this ivy) were a state school and a small LAC.

I'm in the same boat as mochamaven (even in the place where we're ending up). I visited almost 20 schools (small LACs, Ivies, and Large State Universities), and the school I thought would offer me the best experience happened to be an Ivy. I can't say I wouldn't be happy at other places, but I think I made the right choice for me (and the prestige was just a bonus). That said, I would have gone to a place like G'town or UVA (non-ivy) over Brown (ivy).

You sound very closed-minded saying things like "all of you do it for the prestige" and "all of you are the most self-centered people on the planet". You've made over 100 posts on here so it seems you're a prestige-whoring self-centered CCer as well.

Like a couple of other people have already mentioned, I also chose an Ivy for reasons other than prestige. I was visiting LACs in the area and visited it because it was convenient, thinking I wouldn't even like it. But I fell in love with it and would be thrilled to be going there even if it weren't an Ivy. Also, I still volunteer even though it I don't need it for college admissions anymore. Please stop making ridiculous statements.

I actually volunteer because I like to help those who are in more unfortunate situations then I am. And it showed in my interviews. How else would I have gotten into every single guaranteed medical program I interviewed in? And I would've rejected going to an ivy to go to some of these programs because I know what I'm goin' to be. Oops, looks like I violated 1,3 and 5. Don't take one example and generalize it.

The only reason I'm on this site to gain more insight into colleges and help out my chances. That's what it was made for. And that doesn't necessarily mean takin' out other CC'ers either
