I am Malaysian. Do colleges consider me as "Asian" or an underrepresented portion of Asians? (SE)

In particular; Vanderbilt, Duke, and UPenn.

Thanks.

Vanderbilt might, just because Asian has a lower percentage of Asian in general compare to other elite schools. Probably not at Duke and UPenn.

FWIW, we are also UR Asian.

Colleges may note your Malay background – but there exists no institutional advantage/dis-advantage. You’re Asian.

Thank you @2018dad! I’m applying ED to Vanderbilt so maybe that will give me a little “foot-in-the-door” sort of thing.

OP:
Good luck! It’s a good school. We researched it when my daughter was apllying last year. She ended up not applying because Vandy doesn’t have the major that she was interested.
