My son just got e-mail regarding his fianancial awards which is less than $1000. Please excuse my little knowledge it is first-time for us. My questions are -
1) Do Financial awards are sent in bits and pieces? Means, do they grant more money later?
2) Do we have to accept the admission offer before accepting the financial awards. This is what it says

Access your award information by:
1) Visiting our website at UCIrvine Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships Home
2) Select 'Log on to My Aid'.
3) Select the 'Fall 2012 through Summer 2013' academic year.
4) Select 'My Aid Award'.

YOU MUST COMPLETE STEPS 1 THROUGH 4.

*You should log in and accept your awards as soon as possible. * Make sure you log in, review your awards and complete all the tasks on "My To Do List" to ensure that your aid is available to pay your fees.

I think there is something wrong?? I just checked my financial aide status and received a UC Irvine grant of 11,000 and received 19,000 in loan options. I am from CA and have an annual income of 97K. Is your son an out of state student or international student??

1). If you login to your son’s financial aid page, then it will tell you the full amount that has been offered. So if it says it is $1000 in total grants/scholarships/loans, then that will automatically be applied to your university balance (tuition & housing). Whether the $1000 is spread out over the 3 quarters- I am not sure.

2.) Just accept the awards even if you haven’t accepted the admission offer. You have nothing to lose from doing that.

Thanks for replying.

It says -

My Gift Aid ------ $$$.00 (B)
(Includes scholarships or grants)

Its possible that that is all the “free” money you may receive. But you/he should be able to apply for the balance via federal loans. Federal loans have a MUCH lower interest rate and are more flexible on the payback options (for students) that private loans.

Financial aid is doled out by quarters.

Go to [UCIrvine Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships Home](Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships | UCI)
In the left column click on “Log on to my Aid”
Once you’ve logged on go to “My Aid Award”
On the first or second page you will see the logo of a magnifying glass with a link marked “My aid by terms”. This link will tell you how much, and when, the aid will be doled out.

Hope that helps.

We are from orange county, CA. I am SAHM and husband makes little over 100K, 4 dependents including me. My son’s stats are very strong & he is invited to UCI’s honors program.
I am quite saddened; there is no way we can pay that much tuition. My son declined full ride to CSUF for UCI

Anteatermom,

That is all the ‘free’ money is. Just wondering why?

There has to be something my family’s AGI is 97k and I am my parents’ only dependent. You should check your FAFSA for any errors just in case. WHat is your EFC, mine’s is 10,000. BTW I never qualified for CHP so this is quite peculiar. Check your FAFSA forms in case especially if your son qualified for lots of financial in CSUF

Thank you…will do that.

A lot of different factors that influence the grants & scholarships you receive.

Here is a list of what is available and other data from UCI
