understanding major options

Can a student at CMC enroll in the Human Biology major at Pitzer (through the JSD)? I'm not sure I quite understand how much flexibility there is in cross college enrollment and how that does/doesn't change within the JSD.

Thanks.

I was Pomona but generally speaking my understanding of cross enrollment was that if a major was not offered at your school you could petition to cross enroll. Technicalities may be different at CMC but I’m only chiming in as you don’t seem to be getting an answer and hope someone with the right knowledge will know. Anyway, go take a look at the CMC registrar’s website and download the student handbook it should have their policy on cross enrollment listed.

Thx. I’ve read what I can find online and it doesn’t explicitly state that one can’t take the major at Pitzer, just that it is offered only at Pitzer. I’ve got an interview coming up and will ask then if I don’t get more answers here. Thanks for trying!

If it’s an alumni interview they probably won’t know either. Look it up in the handbook. I interview for Pomona and if someone came and asked me something that they could have looked up like that I would think they were lazy, disorganized, or both and it would be a mark against them. You should ask your interviewer questions about fit and their experience, NOT functional/procedural questions like that.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll try again to find it, but laziness isn’t my issue! On the other hand, if that’s how it looks…

Sorry I didn’t mean to sound harsh, I’m just telling you the reality of what would be going through my mind if I was interviewing you. You have a very limited amount of time with your interviewer and their entire impression of you (for better or worse) will be developed in that short time and much of it will be based on assumptions that are probably not justified, but that are necessary given the time constraints of the interview.

The answer is yes! My D is at CMC…here is the joint sciences link she sent me that shows human biology at Pitzer listed as an option.

[JSD :: Majors and Courses](http://www.jsd.claremont.edu/majors/)

She says if it’s joint science, it is available for a CMC major. Even science majors at other 5C campuses that are not part of joint science are an option. She actually has a major that is at another 5C college.

Also, anything at joint sciences is considered CMC…not off campus for registration purposes, as are many other programs.

Thanks. This is what I thought, but it helps to have it confirmed. Had already decided to apply ED, but this just boosts my confidence. Now…on to the essay!

Good luck with that essay! Remember that Claremont is really interested in what makes you tick…they are huge on fit.

Maybe you have seen these links, but just in case…
