I am currently an undocumented student at a public university. My current college GPA is a 4.0 but because of ap credit, I'm have junior standing, despite being a freshman. I was also ranked 3rd in my class with a g.p.a of 4.65 out of a 4.0, with 13 ap classes total, the most taken in my school. I am currently applying as a transfer student to some ivy league schools, what are my chances of getting accepted? While my grades may be the typical norm for an ivy league applicant, what I'm depending on is my undocumented status. Do you think this will distinguish me from the other applicants? Also, I'm 1st generation, Hispanic, first person to go to College, and low-income. So...what do you guys think?

So, your hoping that being a criminal will will help you get into an Ivy league school? You make me sick, and the sad thing is, it probably will help you.

Excuse me? I don’t think you know who you are talking to. It’s not about being a criminal, I had no choice in coming to this country. It’s people that are intolerant like yourself that are rejected by these schools. These schools look for motivated, understanding, and compassionate students. I feel sorry for you. P.S. Most of these school support helping undocumented student. Thanks.

Being Hispanic is a hook; being low income and first generation are also plusses. Being undocumented is either a non-factor, or it will prohibit you from attending based on financial need. As a undocumented, you maybe considered an ‘international’ for financial aid purposes, and since not all Ivies meet full need for internationals, you could be accepted but not afford to be able to attend.

AP credits and HS gpa won’t count for much. Your college grades will matter a LOT more. Of course, you’ll notice that the Ivies accept few transfers, bcos they just don’t have space. Cornell is transfer-friendly, but C does not meet full need of internationals. You best shot is probably Dartmouth.

I’m not a ■■■■■. This is exactly who I am LOL. And, thank for the advice. Most of the ivy league schools have actually changed their policies in the past few years. In fact, they consider international students as domestic students. Thus, they provide full rides, no matter what. I guess I’m doing well so far…

i’m not sure if being undocumented in itself would help your stats (i’m really not familiar with current policies, sorry) but i’m pretty sure it won’t hurt you, and you can use it to your advantage if you want to by involving youself in immigrant rights issues; for example in your essay (if you write one for transfer, which i’m assuming you do even though i don’t really know about transferring) you could talk about the dream act and your thoughts on it or something like that, in which case your personal connection could set you apart from the crowd. depending on what your interests are, i think there’s definitely a way that you can work your unique experiences to your advantage. however i would also recommend applying to colleges besides the ivy league if you want to transfer since those schools tend to take in VERY few transfers, so even if you have a great application you’ll still have a very low chance (also make sure you’re applying places that you can afford, since financial aid often only goes to US citizens). you sound like a great student though, so i think you could definitely get into some great schools. good luck!! :)
